N ^EXPLAINS ING OF TREES An analysis of the report on month, besides those which were trees cut within the city last month, besides those which were felled in widening of Chestnut street between Second and Fifth streets, showed that 23 were cut at the request of property owners, City Manager A. C. Nichols dis closed yesterday. It was pointed out that the 33 trees cut, which had no connection with the widening of Chestnut street, 13 were oaks. All were con sidered decayed and dangerous, or otherwise felled because of “good and valid reasons,” Mr. Ni chols said. He disclosed that the City received several other re quests from property owners to cut or remove trees, but their reasons were not considered valid enough b ythe Park department to carry out their requests. Of the number of trees cut, ac cording to the analysis by the City Manager, eight of the 33 trees felled were removed because they were dec ay d ani dangerous; two were dead. Included in the report were three populars, two maples, which were cut for one property owner because they hampered the con struction of a sidewalk, and five sycamores, two of which were cut at the request of property owners.
