SELLING REMAINS
LIGHT ON CHANGE
NEW YORK, July 16.—<M—While
selling continued exceptionally
light, there was enough of it in
today’s stock market to put lead
ers down fractions to more than
two points.
Transfers of 790,000 shares com
pared with 960,000 Friday and
were the smallest for a full ses
I sion since April 10.
The Associated Press 60-stock
average was off .5 of a point at
66 2, widest dip since July 5. Ot
848 issues appearing, 521 declined,
143 advanced and 184 were un
changed.
Prominent on the stumble were
Santa Fe. Southern Pacific, North
ern Pacific, Baltimore and Ohio,
U. S. Steel, Chrysler, Douglas Air
craft, United Aircraft, Internation
al Harvester, Montgomery Ward,
Texas Co., Westinghouse. Interna
tional Telephone and Du Pont.
American Telephone pushed up
better than a point at the start
on a pleasing second quarter com
plication. It finished down 1-8 at
179 7-8. United Air Line held again
of 1-4 on Washington recommen
dations this company be granted
a Hawaiian route. A trifle ahead
were electric Power and Light
and North American.
Bonds trailed with stocks. Cot
ton was 30 cents a bale lower to
five cents higher.
Resistanant in the curb were
American Gas, Brewster Aero and
Humble Oil. Backward were Cit
ies Service, Aireon and Electric
Bond and Share. Turnover here
was 310,000 shares versus 360,
000 in the preceding session.

NEW YORK COTTON
SLUMPS 30 CENTS
NEW YORK, Joly 16—(TP)—After
establishing new seasonal highs,
the cotton market weakened to
day on increased profit taking and
hedging. Final prices were 30 cents
a bale lower to 5 higher.
Easiness in outside markets en
couraged some of the late selling,
which met only scale-down sup
port. Early gains of 50 cents a
[bale were registered on mill and
commission horse bhying.
Leading spot firms were sellers,
attributed partly to hedging of cot
ton acquired from the Commodity
Credit Corp stock in connection
with the recent sale of the staple
to Spain.
The Bureau of Census report
placing June cotton consumption
at 786,000 bales were slightly larg
er than expected by the trade.
Futures closed 30 cents a bait
lower to 5 higher.
