Jiminez. NHHS TO BE HOST TO MUSIC FESTIVAL ■ § ■ I When the Southeastern District ; Music Festival is held here this Spring, the New Hanover High school will play the part of host. According tn Miss Sarah Robin son, director of music in the high school and district chairman of the festival, the one-day district con test to determine finalists for the State contest in Greensboro, will be held in the local school’* au ditorium April 6. Counties which will have Junior and Senior High school musicians here to compete in the festival are Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, Pender, Onslow and New Hanover. Only Junior and High school students will be eligible to participate. Divisions of the festival competi tion include: vocal and instrumen tal soloes, ensemble, band and glee clubs. Included in the com peting ensemble group will be duets, quartets and trios, along with boy an<J girl choruses. The band director at New Hanover high is Lt. Eugene Lacock, Mrs. Eric Norden directs the orchestra. Judges for the event will be orofession-al musicians chosen by the State group in Grensboro. The State contest will be held on the campus of Woman’s college. (U.R)—The Automatic Transportation Co. received the first U. S. Naval Ordnance Devel opment Award ever to be given to an organization west of the Atlan tic Seaboard. The award was inaugurated by the Navy to recognize firms and individuals engaged in projects tco secret to be given the regular Army-Navy “E” awards during the war.
