CITY BRIEFS EXCHANGE CLUB MEETS The regular meeting of the Wilmington Exchange club will be held at 1 p. m. today In the banquet room of the Friendly cafeteria. SCRIPT DANCE A script dance, sponsored by Wilmington Post No. 10, Ameri can Legion, will be held in the Legion Home Third and Dock streets, tonight mt 8:30 o’clock. Music will be furnished by Vir gil West and his orchestra. The public, as well as aU veterans and their wives and dates have been invited, according to Lt. John H. Bandl, chairman. ON DUTY Bed Cross Staff assistants on duty yesterday included Mrs. R. B. Satcbwell, Trust building, and Mrs. W. F. irt«g and Mrs. A. T. St. Amand in the Custom house. BUSY TYPIST Miss Anne Williams of the local Social Security office has been busy the past three days filling in Social Security cards totalling 115. CLOCK STOPS During the heavy rains Wed nesday afternoon the County Court House clock quit ticking at exactly 1:43 o’clock. The last time the clock stopped was during the freeze of ’44. CUPID IDLE Recording of license to marry experienced a slump yester day when A. B. Rhodes, reg ister of deeds reported there were no license issued from his offices. LEGIONAIRES MEET The regular monthly meeting of the American Legion Post No. 10 was held in the Legion Home last night. Only routine matters were taken up, Ray Galloway report ed. He said there was a large attendance. LEGION DANCE The American Legion Wil mington Post No. 10 will hold the second of a series of week ly dances, tonight at 8:30 in the American Legion ball room, 100 South Third street. Virgil West and his or chestra will provide music for the dances. 34TH ANNUAL MEETING The 34th annual meeting of the shareholders of the Caro lina Building and Loan associ ation will be held at the office of the secretary, at 201 Prin cess street, Tuesday at 3:30 pm., it was announced yester day by W. A. Fonevelle, secre tary of the association. Annual reports of officers, the election of directors and other matters pertaining to the affairs of the association will be considered k was said. COMMUNITY CHEST The annual joint meeting of the Community Chest and the, Community Council will meet Monday night in St. Paul’s Lutheran church parish house at 8 o’clock. Dr. A. M. Young, Raleigh, will be the principal speaker. ARRIVES HOME Joseph K. Barnes, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Barnes, 127 S. 8th St., arrived home last night after completion of his 10-weeks basic naval training at Camp Peary, Va. He will spend 10 days here. RETURNS TO OFFICE Miss Mary Maples, secretary to Chief of Police Charles H. Castecn, is expected to return to work this morning after hav ing been absent due to illness. L. COLVIN A. L. Colvin of Kelly, died Thurs day' in James Walker Memorial hospital. Funeral services will be held in Hawbluff Baptist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Inter ment will be in the church ceme tery. MRS. JULIA WARNECKS Requiem mass will be sung by Monsignor C. E. Murphy for Mrs. Julia Warnecke, mother of Mrs. H. A. McKee, Wilmington, who died.. Tuesday night in Charlotte, Satur day morning at 10 o’clock in St. Mary’s Catholic church. Interment will be in Chicago, 111. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at the chapel of Andrews Mortuary Friday night at 8 o’clock by Mosignor Murphy. Surviving, besides Mrs. McKee, are two sons, Carl and Emil War necke, both of Chicago; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. GLOVER BERRY COPELAND Funeral services for Glover B Copeland, 59, 119 Forest Hills drive, who died yesterday morn ing in a local hospital, will be conducted this afternoon at 3 o’clock from the chapel of An drews Mortuary with Dr. Sankey L. Blanton, pastor of First Bap tist church, officiating. Interment will be in Oakdale cemetery. Pallbearers will be A. H. Wil liams, C. J. Oldenbuttel, J. F. Rodgers, J. L. Wilcox, J. C. Cle ment, and H. Coughenour. Honorary pallbearers include L. Crocker, Dr. Evans, F. L. Etchi son, H. H. Hill, F. H. Fechtig, and R. L. Groover. He is survived by his wife, the former Clara Bell Wright, a son, Bobby Copeland, both of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Freeman, and Mrs. K. O. Fuller, both of Dalton, Ga., a brother, Jack M. Copeland, of Atlanta, Ga. For 37 years he was in the em ployment of the Atlantic Coast Line railroad, and was roadmaster at the time of his death. MRS. MARY tj. WIL.SON WHITEVILLE, Jen. 17.—Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Wilson, 88, who died in her home Thurs day morning at 11 o’clock after a long illness, will be conducted in the home Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Gore offici ating. Interment will be In Cala bash. She was a resident of Ash, and was the wife of the late Jonas Wilson. Surviving are five sons, Wallie Wilson, Bolivia; Sullivan, Jesse J., Louis P., and Joseph, all of Ash; five daughters, Mrs. Etta Thomas, Mrs. Della Benton, Mrs. Ollie Hew ett, Miss Mollie Wilson and Miss Ellen Wilson, and 21 grandchildren. MRS. CORA B. EATON Mrs. Cora B. Eaton, sister of Mrs. W. R. Hartsfield, 709 Dock street, died Wednesday afternoon after a lengthy illness at the home ; of her stepdaughter, Mrs. Mamie Fleming, Cleveland, N. C.
