Sorosis Group Plans Meeting This Thursday The International Relations de partment of North Carolina Sorosis will meet on Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock in the Sorosis club house, 116 North Third street. Mrs. George LeGrand of the gov ernment faculty of New Hanover High school win be the speaker of the afternoon and has chosen as her topic, “United Nations Educa tional, Scientific, and Cultural Or ganization.” She will be intro duced by Mrs. Lucille K. Schirffler, president of the local unit of the North Carolina Educa tion association, and principal of Sunset Park school. Mrs. LeGrand’s talk will be fol lowed by a discussion during which time the club members may ask questions pertaining to the topic. The High School orchestra, un der the direction of Mrs. Eric Nor den, will present a program prior to Mrs. LeGrand’s talk. Officers of the department are Mrs. Virginia Ward, chairman; Mrs. Manly Williams, vice chair man, and Mrs. Kenneth B Mar shall, secretary. * * * Moore-McCotter Marriage Solemnized NEW BERN, Jan. 26—Mrs. Alice Gallop McCotter of Vandemere and Clarence Albert Moore of Kinston, were married Saturday night, Jan uary 19, in the parsonage of Cen tenary Methodist church in New Bern. The Rev. Robert L. Jerome officiated. The bride was attired in a gold twill suit, with a gold hat trimmed with sequins. Her other accessories were brown. After the ceremony, the couple left for a wedding trip to Florida. Mrs. Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willis H. Gallop, of Alachua, Fla., is clerk of Superior Court in Pamlica county. Mr. Moore holds a position with the Atlantic Coast Line railroad. Miss Mary Alice (Bunny") Blackham, snapped chatting with Lt. James Morse, now on terminal leave, at the Friday night dance held j weekly at the American Legion home. Miss Blackham is secretary I at the Boy Scouts office in th? city. (Staff photo by Knight)._ Couniy Council 01 4-H Clubs Conducts Meet The 4-H Club County Council met yesterday morning at 10 o’clock in the home agent’s office. The president, Harold Olsen, pre sided. The meeting was opened with “America the Beautiful'’ led by the song leader, Adelaide Wil son. The pledge to the American flag and the 4-H club pledge were given. The minutes were read by Sparkey Carrol, the secretary, and reports were given by each club. An outstanding report was given by the Wrightsboro boys which consisted of their plans for a 4-H garden plot on the school grounds for th:ir demonstrations and ex periments. The vegetables are to be used by the school cafeteria. Announcements were made about the club members selling walnut and dogwood trees, the 4-H Short course to be held in Raleigh the week of August 12, and plans Calder - Crown Engagement Is Announced Here _ . The engagement of Miss Sue Irent Calder, daughter of Mr. and ; :rs. Robert Edward Calder of Wil mington. has been announced to John Albert Crown, of Decatur, Ga., formerly of Wilmington. Miss Calder attended the local schools and Mt. Vernon Semi nary at Washington, D. C. Mr. Crown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Treadwell R. Crown of Decatur, was a captain in the Marine Corps and saw duty in the Pacific area. for the 4-H Officers camp at Mill stone. The East Wilmington 4-H club girls gave two short skits: “Rail road Crossings” and a “Romantic Pageant.” A movie, “Little Black Sambo,” was shown at the close of the pro gram. Club Clock The VFW auxiliary will hold the regular meeting on Tues day evening at 8 o’clock in the Tide Water assembly rooms. Goldenrod chapter No. 142, OES, will hold the regular meeting Monday evening at 8:15 o’clock in the Masonic temple. The recreation department of the Lake Forest school will sponsor a benefit bridge party and March of Dimes party on Thursday evening at 8 o’clock. Prizes will be donated by the merchants of the city. The public is invited. The Missionary society of Southside Baptist church will meet Monday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the church in stead of on Tuesday as sched uled. All Junior GA’s and Junior RA’s, Sunbeams will meet at the same hour. A called meeting will be held Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock in the Lydia Yates classroom at Grace Methodist church for all superintendents and teach ers of children’s division of Grace church school. The Foreign Mission study class and book review will be held in the Kenan building Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock. Every member of the Woman’s auxiliary is expected to attend and urged to stay for lunch. The self-denial foreign offer ing will be received at this meeting. Miss Ida Black will be present. The South Wilmington Home Demonstration club will meet Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home of Mrs. C. D. Parker, all women of the community are invited to at tend. The monthly meetirg of the Methodist Sub-district will be held Monday evening at 8 o’clock at the Carolina Beach church. • * * Miss Rebekah Tharp, Homer Sanderson Wed At Long Creek Church The Zion Methodist church at Long Creek was the scene yester day afternoon at 5 o’clock of the wedding of Miss Rebekah Tharp and Homer J. Sanderson. The church was decorated with palms, southern smilax, and tall baskets of white gladioli inter spersed with white tapers in seven branched candelabra. The cere mony was performed by the Rev. W. B. Gregory, who used the ring ceremony. Miss Wetona Tharp, pianist, and Miss Sally Betts Knox soloist, rend ered the nuptial music. Miss Knox sang ‘‘Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life,” Dctdiiae, aim i j_.ove IOU Truly,” and during the ceremony the pianist play “Liebestraum.” The bridesmaids dresses were fashioned similar to that worn by the bride with long fitted bodices, puffed sleeves and full circular skirts of net. Misses Elsie Lewis and Margaret Efird wore dresses of orchid and Miss Dorothy Sand erson and Mrs. John L. Tharp wore yellow. Their bouquets of mixed flowers were tied with matching ribbon and net. They wore matching flowers on their hair. Beaman Norman, Joe Pickett, Edwin Futrell and Woodrow Ma ready were ushers. Miss Caroline Tharp, sister of the bride, wore a baby blue net gown fashioned after that of the bride and carried a bouquet of pastel flowers. Both the bride’s mother and the mother of the bridegroom wore black gowns with corsages of white roses. The bride, given in marriage by her father, D. W. Tharp, wore a gown of white satin and net. The long molded lines of the bodice of satin was fashioned with a high neckline and deep yoke of net, the sleeves of satin tapered to calla lily points at the wrists. Her fing er tip veil of illusion was caught to her hair with a halo of seed pearls. Her bouquet was of white carnations and roses. The bride’s only ornament was a cameo pin worn by her great grandmother. Following the ceremony the couple left for a wedding trip. For travel the bride changed to a suit of garnet with black accessories and a corsage of roses taken from her bouquet. Mrs. Sanderson is the daughter of Mr .and Mrs. D. W. Tharp and was graduated from the Bolivia high school and Mottes business school. For the past three years she has been employed at the North Carolina Shipbuilding com pany. Mr. Sanderson, son of Mrs. Eula Sanderson and the late W. A. Sand erson, was graduated from the Chinquapin high school after his discharge from the navy. He is employed as electrician at the North Carolina Shipbuilding com pany. After February 10 the couple will be at home in Wilmington Immediately after the wedding rehearsal on Friday night Mr. and Mrs. E>. W.
