Over The Airways • By BEN MCDONALD The Readers Write: “Dear Ben: I've heard many a tale about fishermen’s exploits, but this one is absolutely, positively as true as it is fantastic. There are, according to my informant, wit nesses to prove that it happened. I know there are a lot of fishermen who read the Star-News and I think this little storv will interest them, won’t mention the names of the ..it, involved, but this tale I --— ■dines from a source I never t ve had reason to doubt. Hope you will find room to pass it along ... It seems as though my friend was out fishing with members of his family and friends and they had intended to do some sharking-but I think I should add it was turn-about before the day ended. . "Things were going along peace fillv out there in the deep water when a huge fin cut thr0lISh the rM‘ where they were fishing. Without warning, the shark sank hi ' ;eeth into the stern of my friend's small motor boat. I don’t save to roll you that consternation reigned as the shark tugged and ranked ail *he while sinking his eeth deeper into the tail-end of p craft. My friend did not lose kis head, and casting around' for some means to defeat the pur ' se 0f the shark, he noticed the exhaust pipe was inclined in the shark's mouthful of boat. Quickly •]-,e started the motor with the in tention of asphyxiating the shark. Believe it or not the idea worked. It took several minutes, but the shark was driven off and my friend has the boat, its stern a mass of splinters, to prove his story. I guess you would call that tale, ‘all over the seawaves.’ "Sincerely yours, "Liston King.” Thanks. Liston. And honestly, we believe you!
