kaiser acquires aluminum plants tyest Coast Builder Enters Field Through Lease Of Government Factories WASHINGTON, Feb. 21—(JF)— Henry J- Kaiser entered the alumi um field Thursday, leasing two huge government-owned plants to turn out the lightweight metal for automobiles. The War Assets corporation turn ed down bids from the Reynolds Metals company which it said might have yielded a greater re turn to the government for the first 0rder t0 P“t Kaiser * Jta,the.fleld with Reynolds , Corporation of “Kiese leases will place a third ?r°ducer ,in the Primary aluminum industry m continuation of the poli cies o fthe War Assets corporation to promote competition in alumi num,” the announcement said. It noted that “the Kaiser com panies propose to use aluminum extensively in the production of automobiles, a field which had hitherto made very limited use of aluminum.” This, it added, will promote the market for aluminum and make it easier to dispose of other government aluminum plants. I COOLEY SAYS PRICES OF FARM COMMODITIES TO JUMP WITH WAGES RALEIGH, Feb. 21—(/P)—In a telegram received here Thursday by State College Extension Service editors, Representative Harold D. Cooley (D-N. C.), member of the House Agriculture committee, said that increases in industrial wages "will necessitate a comparable in crease in the price of agricultural commodities.’’ The wire said that the 65-cents-an hour minimum wage bill, recently reported to the Senate floor, “will be considered by the Senate at an early date and will, in all proba bility, pass by a substantial major ity.” Cooley expressed the opinion that the bill would also pass in the House and meet quick approval by the President. “When the wage bill comes be fore the House,” Cooley added, "the Pace parity bill (to place price floors under farm com modities) will be offered as an amendment. APPOINTED RALEIGH, Feb. 21.—(JP)—Ap pointment of Holt McPherson, man aging editor of the Shelby Daily Star, to membership on the North Carolina Merit System council was announced Thursday by Governor Cherry.
