(International) Your GI Rights Questions ana Answer* On Servicemen’* Problems By DOUGLAS LARSEN WASHINGTON —Veterans and their relatives have sent in the fol lowing questions: Q—ivly Drotlier just got back from overseas, where he was in several battles. He refuses to go outside or to try to get work. He just sits in the house and talks about the war. I am a widow, and I can’t afford to support him if he ! doesn’t help. I hate to leave him alone in the house. I am desperate. What car I do? A—Your brother apparently needs help from a Veterans’ Ad ministration doctor. Explain the i situation to the nearest VA contact representative. If it is cecided he doesn’t need medical attention, he can get money from the gov ernment for rehabilitation training or as a readjustment allowance un til he can find something tc do. Q—Is it possible for a veteran to get a government-guaranteed loan for the purchase of a house, and I at the same time to get money [ from the government for continu ing his education? A—I. is theoretically possible. But if you are attending school, you will probably find it difficult to get any loan agency to lend you money with which to buy a house. q_Mv son was in the Marine Corps for close to three years, yet he never had one day of furlough. Can he get any money for the fur lough time he should have re ceived ’ A—No. A bill has been intro duced which would give enlisted men the same type of terminal leave officers receive, but Con gress has taken no action on it. Q—My son is getting veterans’ unemployment compensation. Will 1' is be deducted from any future bonus he might receive from the government? A—No. Q—My husband was 4-F during the war Last month he was drafted. Will he be eligible for the GI benefits when he gets out? A—Yes, if he serves on active duty longer than 90 days, and if his discharge is other than dishon orable. (Questions will be answered only in this space—not by mail.) UVv Lnnmbni SWIHUS BEHIND PROGRAM TO AID DAIRY OUTPUT WASHINGTON, April 10.—fU.H)— The government was believed Wednesday to be swinging behind a compromise program to spur dairy production with both addi tional subsidies and some outright price increases. Specific details of the program are expected to be announced soon, perhaps, Wednesday. Its pur pose will be to increase milk, but ter and cheese supplies by reliev ing the “squeeze” on producers who contend there is no profit 'n *hese items under present ceilings Government agencies first were reported working on a plan for across-the-b o a r d increases in dairy prices. It called for as much as a cent a quart increase in milk prices with corresponding hikes in the price of butter and cheese. \TU Agents Take Still In Pender County Swamp A 100-gallon capacity steam-type still and 300 gallons of spent mash were destroyed by Alcohol Tax Unit agents yesterday morning m a swamp in Pender county.
