NEWSPAPER JOINS RESIGNATION BAND Chicago Sun Urges Presi dent To Name Republi can State Secretary By The Associated Press Suggestions that President Tru man resign in view of the Republi can sweep of Congress attracted wide attention last night in the nation s press. The Chicago Sun, which backed the Roosevelt-Truman ticket in 1944, urged resignation in an open letter to the Chief Executive, ft said that “with hostile forces domi nating the Congress and with you in control of the executive office, cur foreign policy will be vacillat ing and our part in the pacifica tion of the world come to a stale mate. xxx "We believe that if at this time full responsibility be thrown upon the Republican party to develop and administer a national policy, the voters will have the issues cut clearly and intelligently for them in 1948.” The Sun urged Mr. Truman to ask the Republican Congressmen to pick a member of their party to be appointed secretary of state, and then to resign in his favor. Senator Fulbright (D-Ark) simi larly suggested that the President name a Republican secretary of state and resign, allowing him to succeed to the Presidency, Editorial comment included: Washington Post (Independent)— The move would be an affront to the spirit of the constitution, xxx not for a moment, we believe, will the President listen to the call for his resignation except as a last resort. It would be a confusion of pusillanimity of which Harry Tru man has never been accused. A quitter he has never been x x x. GETS POLICE POST OXFORD, Nov. 6.— (JP)—W. N.
