The checks marked the first dis tribution of profits the ABC board has made to the local government agencies so far this fiscal year. The city has written into its budget expectations of receiving $300,000 in ABC revenue this yea as against $320,000 in 1945-46. The AEC board owed the city $99,000 at the begining of the fiscal year. The county budget anticipates $135,000 in ABC revenue this year, while Carolina Beach expects $20 000. WAYNESVILLETO HONOR FERGUSON Celebration Planned Today For President Of Ship Building Firm WAYNESVILLE, Nov. 19-(vP) This Haywood county seat put finishing touches Tuesday on plans for a gala celebration honoring a native son who left this mountain community as a youth and who to day is acclaimed as one of the nation’s top shipbuilders. He is Homer L. Ferguson, presi dent of the Newport News Ship building and Dry Dock company, which during two wars has outfit ted Uncle Sam’s Navy with many of its heavy fighting ships. The celebration, officially titled Homer L. Ferguson Day, will be staged Wednesday. The one-day affair will begin with a motorcade which will meet Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson at Canton during the morning. Exercises in honor of Ferguson will follow a parade head ed by a 55-piece band. A barbecue will be a feature of the afternoon program. Ferguson, the son of William Burder and Laura Adelaide Fer guson, was born here March 6. 1873. He attended the U. S. Naval academy at Annapolis, graduating in 1892, and he subesquently grad uated from Gloscbw university in Scotland. Enters Marine Field He entered the field of ship con struction in 1895 and continued in that work at several Atlantic and Pacific shipbuilding yards un til 1905 when he joined the1 staff of the Newport News firm. He has held a number of key positions in national and international civic and business organizations. AIRPORT TRANSFER Following a meeting of mem bers of the Wilmington - New Hanover Airport authority with the Board of County commis sioneers Tuesday, Albert F. Perry, chairman of the former, said the group had not arrived at any conclusions which may be published at this time. He said that results are expected within a matter of “days,” but did not say whether the “re sults” will affect airport trans fer to the county or pay raises for two of its employs.
