holic Beverage Control stores m
25 North Carolina counties report
ed a sale of $2,971,834.35 for the
month of February — this was a
drop of about $81,000 from Jan
uary’s total of $3,052,518.40, Carl
Williamson, state ABC chairman
laid today.
Durham led the list of counties
in total sales for February, with
$379,671.70. Wake county was sec
ond, with a tc^al business of $344,
845.50.

Workman Killed
ASHEVILLE, April 2—(IP)—'Tal
mer Champion, 18, employe of the
Merchant Construction company,
died in a hospital here this after
noon, shortly after he had fallen
from a 39-foot scaffolding at the
plant of the American Enka cor
poration.
Construstion firm representaitives
said Champion, operating an air
hammer on a boilerhouse projest,
died from head injuries.

TAKES NO ACTION ON
PICKETING CONCERT
CHARLOTTE, April 2—(/?)—The
Stonewall Jackson post of the
Veterans of Foreign wars hais tak
en no official action on picketing
of the armory here April 27 when
Kirsten Flagstad, Norwegian so
prano, sings, Ben Douglas, out
going commander, said today.
He said that at a recent meeting
the post adopted a resolution re
questing that tihe Park board,
which controls the armory, deny
its use to the singer. A member
of the post pointed out, Douglas
added, that veterans .caul.;, picket
as individuals if they wished, but
not as VFW members. However,
this was only a suggestion, and no
official action was taken on picket
ing, Douglas explained.
Miss Flagstad returned to Nor
way at the beginning of the war
to be with her husbamd. He was
later accused of dealing with Ger
man occupation forces, but died
before trial..
