The First Christian church, Third
and Ann streets, was the scene
of the marriage of Miss Dorothy
Mae Cook, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. T. J. Cook Jr., of this city,
to Hubert Harold McKoy, son of
Mr. and Mrs. T. E. McKoy. also
of this city, Saturday, July 5, at
4 o’clock. The Rev. Philip Byson
Carlisle officiated.
Prior to the ceremony a pro
gram of nuptial music was ren
dered by the organist. The church
was decorated with palms, fern,
and arrangements of white flow
ers. Tall white tapers burned in
branched candelabra.
Attending the bride was Miss
Shirley Barfield as maid-of-honor.
She wore a gown of sky-blue or
gandy fashioned with a round
neck, short sleeves, and a set-in
ruffle at the skirt. Her picture
hat was ef matching blue organdy.
She carried a bouquet of pink
gladioli.
Lyman McLean of Henderson
was best man. Ushers were Leon
ard McKoy and Graham McKoy.
The bride’s mother wore a dress
of sky blue, and white picture hat
and white gloves. Her corsage was
of white carnations.
The bridegroom’s mother wore
an orchid dress, orchid hat trim
med with small pink rosebuds,
and a corsage of pink carnations.
A reception was held immediate
ly after the ceremony at the
church.
Following the reception the cou
ple left for a wedding trip to
Myrtle Beach and Savannah. For
traveling Mrs. McKoy wore a white
dress styled with a long tunic
blouse, a big prim white hat, and
red accessories. Her corsage was
of white carnations.
Mrs. McKoy attended Savannah
High school.
Mr. McKoy is a graduate of New
Hanover High school and is em
ployed at the Tide Water Power
. company
The duple will reside in Lake
Forest.

The marriage took place on
June 5 in East Foint, Ga., and
was performed by the Rev. V. L.
Bryant.
Mrs. Willis is a graduate of New
Hanover High school class of 1940
The bride wore for her wedding
a two-piece white suit with a
white orchid corsage. She was
connected with the Office of Naval
Intelligence during the war and is
at present employed by the East
ern Air Lines of Atlanta. Ga. Mr.
Willis is associated with the
American Surgical Supply
company, and also attended the
Atlanta Law school. He served
ihree and a half years with the
United States Navy as an engine

A pretty marriage was solemnized
June 27 at 5 o’clock in Cradock
Presbyterian church, when Miss
Thelma Joyce King, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Isaac W. King of
this city, became the bride of Vin
cent Ashbury Smith of Norfolk,
son of Mrs. David H. Edwards
and R. Smith of Norfolk.
The church was decorated with
palms, ferns, white gladioli, snap
dragons, and lighted candles.
The wedding music was played
by the church organist, Mrs.
Moun. Miss Fay Wilson sang “I
Love You Truly” and “Because.”
The ceremony was performed by
the Rev. Vernon Fisher.
The bride, who was given in
marriage by her father, wore a
wedding gown of Duchess lace
made with sweetheart neckline,
tight bodice, and full skirt. Her
fingertip veil of illusion fell from
a tiara of seed pearls. She car
ried a white prayer book topped
with a cluster of rosebuds and
showered with stephanotis. Her
only ornament was a strand of
pearls.
Miss Sara Seigel, Wilmington,
N. C., was mairi-of-honor and only
attendant. She was gowned in
aqua marquisette with a square
neckline on a fitted midriff
bodice. Her gown was caught with
puffs at the hip line to form a
full draped effect skirt. Her long
tig'at-fitted sleeves fell in points
over the nand, and she carried
an arm bouquet of yellow roses.
William Smith of Norfolk was
his brother’s best man. The ush
ers were David King of Wilming
ton. N. C., and Robert Kayse of
Portsmouth.
The bride’s mother was attired
in a dress of aqua crepe with
brown accessories and a corsage
of pink rose buds. *
The mother of the bridegroom
was dressed in a beige crepe, and
corsage of pink rose buds.
After the ceremony a reception
was held at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. J. H. Johnson, 112 Gillis
road.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith left for a
wedding trip, and upon their re
turn will reside at 3506 Old Suf
folk boulevard. The bride wore
for traveling a gray gabardine
suit, green and white accessories,
arrd a corsage of white rosebuds.

Gives Doll Show
A doll show was held on Thurs
day evening at the Nesbitt Court
community center and was largely
attended by people of the com
munity.
Dolls on exhibit were most at
tractive and those entering dolls
in the show who won prizes
were: Barbara Elliott for the pret
tiest doll; Martha Sellars for the
oldest doll, and Barbara Shaw,
Vernell Ganious, Dorothy Ganious,
Rebecca Sellars, Alegria Potter,
Christine Wells, Joan Wells, Patsy
Calabro, Jean Wells, and Louise
Meares.

Widmark acted as judges for the
event. After the show refreshments
were served by Mrs. R. E. Spivy
