Irregularly lower tendencies dul ed from the start. There was a comeback around midday and again in the final hour with short covering and mild investment de mand propping motors and special issues. While gainers were plenti ful at the close, declines predomi nated. It was the tenth successive day in which the million-mark was ex ceeded. Brokerage customers generally inclined to trim accounts on the idea two months of climbing prices, with the industrials at a top since last August, called for a sizable technical correction.
