OBITUARIES r K. L. HOLLOWAY Interment of Elisr.a L. Hollo way, formerly of Wilmington and late of Montclair, N. J. took place at Oakdale cemetery at 11 a. m. yesterday. Mr. Holloway is surviv ed by his widow, Mrs. Cammie Lord Holloway; two sons, Lam bert A. Holloway of Montclair, N. i., and Frederic Ancrum Lord Holloway of Baton Rouge, La. Interment services were con ducted bv the Rev. Mortimer Glover, rector of St. James Episco pal church. MISS ANNIE WALKER Funeral services for Miss Annie Winstead Walker, 65, who died Wednesday morning at 8:20 o’clock at James Walker Memorial hospital, were conducted from the chapel of the Yopp Funeral Home yesterday morning at 10 o’clock by the Rev. Harvey Glazier. In terment followed in Bellevue cemetery. Miss Walker leaves no survivors. An oil substitute for olive oil is obtained from the juices con tained ill poppy stems. W. M. That was announced last night by Wallace West, district chair man, Members of the committee are E. R. Blakeslee, chairman: Jesse Sellers and the Rev. Price H. McCarn. Nominations are to be made for district chairman, dis trict vice-chairman and council executive board member. Plans for the election were worked out last night at a meeting of the area council at the Friendly Cafeteria. Nominees will be named at the annual district committee meeting in December in Wilmington. An annual roundup of the nine counties for the months of Sep tember and October culminating in a three-day camping program in Wilmington and a Cub leaders training course to run for six weeks, yfere discussed. Donald Bennett, Wilmington Eagle scout, conducted opening and closing ceremonies. H. A. Marks, council executive board member, spoke briefly. But still, at the end of the day. there were at least 20 cases left and only one more day of court remaining. A jury found Richard Anderson. 18, a soldier of Bloomington. 111., guilty of receiving a phonograph and records stolen August 13 from a rooming house at Carolina Beach. Anderson contended he pur chased the machine from "a blond boy” on the beach. The court held the youth for military authorities. Anderson admitted that he was absent without leave Mrs. Lucille Borrell, the landlady, testified that she missed the phonograph from the front room of her cottage. Johnnie Moore, legless Negro, was told to come back today to receive sentence after pleading guilty to stabbing his "girl friend.” Ruth Mosher with an ice pick eight or nine times because she ‘‘didn't want to go with me any more.” But the girl appeared hi court with Moore and said that they "had patched up everything.” Eighteen months on the road was the penalty handed out to James Williams. 36,, Negro, who was found guilty of stealing the pro ceeds of the sale of 71 water melons last July 20. The heaviest sentence of the day, seven to 10 years in prison, went to Wesley C. Sewell, 19, charged with burglary. He was found guilty of taking jewelry July 17 from a Wilmington resi dence. Raymond Rorter was piacea on probation for three years after re ceiving a sentence of 18-months on a charge of assault with a dead ly weapon. The charge was chang ed from hit and run in connection with an automobile accident. Port er agreed to pay $600 damages. Twelve months on the road was meted out to Benny Wilkins, form er pugilist, after a jury two days ago found him guilty of assault with a deadly weapon upon Wil liam Flowers in an argument over splitting wood. Wilkins smilingly, had sat in the court continually since the jury had found him guilty. A crime against nature to which Broadus Evans, youthful Negro high school honor student and church organist, pleaded guilty, brought him 15 months at the county farm. City Briefs Jimmy Taylor, scout field execu live, Cape Fear Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, will meet with parents of Cub Pack 36 in the Sun set Park Baptist church tonight at 8 o’clock, it was learned. — The Young Mens’ Christian as sociation gymnasium will be clos ed Friday through Monday Aug. 22-25, for repainting. Adam Smith, physical director, reported. First Sergeant N. Giovinette, in structor, Wilmington National Guard unit, yesterday cited op portunities awaiting men in the organization’s new set up in the city, by pointing out that no prior service is required to join and that for each two-hour meeting a week a full day's Army pay will be given. Officers and men of the Wil mington Navy recruiting station were today congratulated by the Chief of the Bureau of personnel, Navy department, together with Capt. Richard E. Hawes, USN. inspector, Third Recruiting area, with headquarters in Atlanta, Ga.. and officers and men under his command for exceeding the pro curement ouota set for July. 1947. The local office exceeded its quota by four men. Friends of Rev. W. G. Hurni, former pastor of Wilmington Gos pel Tafoernacle, will be glad to know that he will be in Wilming ton next week, attending the Dr. Arthur I. Brown Bible Conference at the Gospel Tabernacle, Sixth and Orange streets. Ct RRKNCY BAN LONDON. Aug. 21 — (A*) — The British government ruled today that utter next Saturday travelers may take only five younds ($201 in sterling notes into or out of Great Britain. The order, part of the British program to fight its way out of an economic crisis, supercedes a law under which travelers now may carry 20 pounds l$801 in or out of the country.
