TOBACCO PRICES FAIR TO STRONG Eastern Belt Markets Re port Gains For Day; Old Belt Wobbly by the associated press Price averages were steady to $3 higher for flue-cured tobacco sold yesterday on the Eastern North Carolina market, but most grades took losses on the Middle Belt while prices were irregular on the Old Belt. Leaf and nondescript grades on the Eastern North Carolina Belt were up from 75 cents to $2 per hundred pounds. Fair orange smoking leaf was up $1, and other grades were un changed, according to the fed aral-state Departments of Agri culture report. Robersonville, according to the marketing service, held fi nal sales yesterday This is the seventh market on the belt to close for the season. Demand weakened on the Middle Belt, and most grades posted losses. The majority of leaf and smoking leaf dropped from 50 cents to $3, but a few green grades compensated for the downward trend with gains up to $3. Nondescript dropped from 75 cents to $3.50, and lugs eased off slightly. Gains outnumbered the losses when compared with Wednes day’s sales on the Old Belt. Most changes were set at $1 and $2, with a few grades fluctu ating as much as $3 and $4. Sales were reported as light, with more good quality leaf and leas common, low and non descript. He entered rail road service on July 1, 1912, with the Gulf Coast and Santa Fe railroads at Galveston, Tex. He served in various clerical positions in the accounting de partments. On April 1, 1920, he became field accountant with the United States Railroad administration, which was in operation during Federal control of rail transpor tation during the first World War. On March 1, 1921, he en tered service with the Interstate Commerce commission’s bu reau of accounts, where he held the position of chief accountant and auditor at the time he joined the Coast Line on May 1, 1937, as assistant comptroller. He was promoted to comptroll er on March 18, 1943. Virginia Native Born in Leesburg, Va., Trundle was educated in Wash ington, D. C. He entered rail road service in 1918 with the Southern railway in Washing tor. and joined the Coast Line in November, 1920.
