While your rate has remained the same for many years, the total cost of fnrnshing tele phone service to our North Carolina cus tomers has steadily increased. Since 1941 expenses have advanced 102 per cent while revenues increased only 76 per cent. Telephone wage rates in North Carolina have increased $2,311,415 since March of 1945 (on an annual basis). The cost of erect ing buildings has jumped 75 to 100 per cent, the cost of providing telephone facilities 45 to 60 per cent, and the cost of telephone materials 15 to 25 per cent. Fact is, all our expenses have been climbing so fast that— ® p 1 J- 4 SOUTHERN BELL TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH COMPANY /P)' INCORPORATED i f i ffO BUSINESS CAN GIVE ADEQUATE SERVICE WITHOUT ADEQUATE EARNINGS I * m : m • #- I .78 < ’AM PA ION. ]i!
