BETTER SALARY
The North Carolina Teach
ers Association representing
almost 7,000 Negro teat Her-•
aimcs; 7,000 Negro teacher;-,
asked Governor R . Gregg
Cherry fe carl a special ses
sion on the State Legislature
lo increase salaries . i all
school personnel in a letter
addressed to, the Governor
Mon day sj t -vee-T: -
The
ter salaries Increase on four
factors as follows:
1. Despite increase; grant
of the legislature teachers
ed teachers by the last session
increasing, has actually de
purehasinq power, tar from
dined.
2. We can and do not ex
pect the Stale to pay ade
quate salaries, when money
tor this purpose is net avail
able, bui the condition of the
State Treasury warrants such
a step.
3. There is still a shortage
of teachers and a substantia!
salary increase would ins
prove the chortage and at
tract betier qualified persons
io the profession.
■l. An investment in better
teachers is an investment in
the future of North Carolina.
