U’-LIOK. lv,N I>LNC», bA'L'l ItUAV, At JOUST Si 11H8. ,p : THE TALE OF I|| P SIX CI TIES | HHH y J rHOMPBON ||| Well, who do you think will win the nt-it t lection'* This ques tion is being asked a million timer, a ibv by your friends, vour enemies, your to-workers, the policeman on tin- beat, the cat) driver, and your merchants. The question might arise from a passenger on a bus or a train, a stranger a> a depot or yout pars* t: might pop bin- question aftei a sermon. Either a short "1 don t know" or a long ‘well here’s what I think about tt," may follow; but thet important thing is . . ■ what active part are you taking to elect the right man? or for that * matter what arc you doing to elect anybody? are you voting? As a matter of fact if a non-voter who was eligible didn’t take time out to cast his vole, it wouldn't be worth while discussing ; the subject with him just to satisfy his whim to make conversation. Too often wo go about talking about who and what we ought to have while doing absolutely nothing to gain our needs. , .It we want anti-poll tax, civil rights and' ill that goes for tirst class citizenship, wy must put our ballots where our mouths ar*. Os the many things that ran b raid, again.! the way usu government has been and w being op* a ted, one uiirtg is certain, •whether they bought their way, worked the;: way up, fought their way up or f. tied their way in, tin men that . ui. mu government were voted in and that’s tin* way they’ll lenvr, Voting is a privilege and a duty. Though denied some, there J are still thousand., among u- who can and don’t, slid others who i use the ballot for personal gain.- only. Yet, pick and category you choost you’ll hear the cry w< ought to be out. Yea I repeat "Are you voting?’’ rjught tot be out Yea i repeat, ‘ Are you voting?" Remember when the minority m the nation couldn’t vote? They sweat blood m more ways than oiu to be like any other American i citizens, they laid the groundwork fur you. Are you building on it? In many quarters the cry used to be, "If we only had a vote, now that \vv have that "American >. * it seems that what' we want now is a mobile voting station to roll up to our front doors ’ % with a private secretary tm <-vn\ citt >*m If this is what, you want you ma.v b- sh,, of this, if our next president stays in office foi as many y ars as cm late President F. D. R. then the so-called minority will be worse >-ft twenty years from now than they were. 120 years previous In this world of fart moving sinners and slow acting Chn; tians men have got to watch as well as pray. "Seek and ve shall * find,' 1 may be defined, "Work, fight, assume your lesponsibrlity m life, or don't spend all your time with you. eves closed and arms fcidecl expecting the answers to your prayers to tail from the heavens at year feet. God does not discriminate. He is just as busy 1 ’listening to sinners as he is to Christians. In fact busier since there eeem to be more of them This brings me to the story of a fanner who didn't attend , church or even worship the Lord in nis own home, despite the continued pleadings of his family, whereupon his wife persuaded the local minister to talk to him ‘‘Yoting man,”-’ said the parson ore day, ’ your farm doesn’t seem so perk. Guess it’s became you d int worship the Lord. Why don’t you try praying to the Lord to give you a fine healthy crop on this barren land?” The young man said thoughtfully, •‘Yes I guess I ought to.” A few months later the parson passed by and saw the farmer in his field which now looked like he would haw a prosperous yield. | "See here brother,” he called. "The Lord has given you a * beautiful farm this year. See what the Lord will do for you if you pray?” ' Yes." smiled the farmer, "But I would have been in a heck of a mess if I hadn't helped Hurt Right now the heavens are loaded with prayers for and against Truman, Dewey, Wallace and other aspirants tor the White House, * but prayers are not counted in the ballot box Are you voting? 10$ W.
