GIRL, 14, DIES IN MYSTERY FALL OFF SCHOOL BUS FAYETTEVIDLE— Mystery sur rounds the death of 14-year-old pirl, student at the local Arm strong High School, who was fa tally injured near here late Mon ; day afternoon when she jumped ur fell from a moving school bus. Victim of the unprecedented tragedy is Bernice Smith, who died shortly after having been ad mitted to a Dunn hospital follow ing her leap or fall from the school vehicle carrying her home. Two eye-witnesses to the inci dent, James Williams, 19, and Clif ford Godwin, la, reported that the pirl suddenly got up from her seat near the middle of the machine, rushed to the front, door and fell headlong into the road. Site of the tragedy was soma 200 yards from the spot where the victim was accustomed to board ingand leaving the bus. Speed of the vehicle was estimated at 33 miles per hour at lime of the leap- The young girl, who along with 'Wiliams, Ihe driver, and Godwin, the bus captain, composed the en tire occupancy of the bus, gave dd uiuj.cai.ion of tun intention, but hurried to the front of the ma chine, turned the handle operating the door and then disappeared from view. The bus was brought to a halt arid the girl rushed to a hospital where she died shortly after ad mittance.
