That night will doubtlessly be long r , membeved by those hall a hundred young lovelies not only lor the many happy moments they must have had but also for ■the many anxious and nervous moments during that long walk across the auditorium stage and that steep descent down the white draped steps. Many a proud mother must have held her breath until the apple of her v y had grace fully made her bow and descended what, must have seem ed an endless number ol steps to the waiting arm of her marshall and finally reached the spot designated lor her on the floor. But thev all rnadt it and the traditional ivy loaf figure vnt reallj pretty with the young ladies in their beaut if;: I v.-hite sown ; each carrying a lovely i•• gift of red roses and trie fauitle-sly at tired marshalls forming :ui idt-m --tive and handsome background. The out-of-town queen was v!i Gwendolyn Charle daught*-> of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Chart*-, of Louisburg and Brooklyn. New York. Raleigh debutant .' qu.en was Miss Rutii Carter, baughlm of Mrs. John Carter of Bloodworth Street hero. At the luncheon held earlier in the day at the Bloodworth Street YMCA. more than iOO guests enjoyed a lovely meal consisting of turkey salad, hot rolls .lettuce and sliced toma toes, cake, coffee and tea. Mrs. Virginia Newell and Ms. Thelma H, Anders presented to each debutante a gilt on behalf of the sorority. These items were for Miss Peebles’ bridesmaids, relatives and closest friends.
