Davis, along with the other top communist leaders, was sentenced to serve five years in prison with time off for good behavior The 11. 8. Supreme court upheld the lower court decis ion in June, 3851. On July 2, 1931, Davis surrendered to the federal district court in New York City to begin serving his term. Four days later, hr was transferred to the federal penitentiary at Terre Haute. He is expected to be freed in March. The penitentiary at Terre Haute is one of six institution? operated by the bureau of prisons of the department of justice. It contains approximately 1,200 prisoners, 250 of them Negroes. LUMBERTON A 26-year-old Fairmont mar.. Troy W. Stephens, was stabbed to death at about 3 p. m. Sunday and his brother, Robert D. Stephens, 19, is being held m the Robeson County Jail, charged with the stabbing.
