acclaimed as “one of the great
church statesmen of our genera
tion” by Reinhold Neibuhr.
In addition to serving as pastor,
he is the founder and executive
director of Mornlngside Commun
ity Center in Harlem. He was nom
inated in 1956 as moderator of the
Presbyterian Church, U. S, A.
He was the first member of his
race to have the honor of giving
the Lyman Beecher Lectures at
Yale. His 1955 series were publish
ed by Channel Press, Inc. in 1956.
He is also author of Tomorrow Is
Today, Love of This Land and an
autobiography with the title Road
Without Turning.
The two day celebration will
open with a fellowship dinner for
ministerial graduates of Shaw, A
pril 23rd. The Reverend James A.
Forbes, president of the Bible In
stitute, Goldsboro, will address the
dinner meeting.
