The prize is a tuition scholarship j of $130.50 for a full year at North Carolina College. The essay contest is sponsored annually by the CAMPUS ECHO, 'student newspaper at North Car olina College, in connection with its Publication Conference for: high school students and ad vis-; ers. With young Cooper, writing, iike music, is strictly a “side issue.” He works on both the newspaper and yearbook staffs at the Robert L. Vann High School. He is also a member of the glee club and the band. Cooper is pianist for the Sun day School of the New Ahos kie Baptist Church, of which he is a member.
