Carey, in a glowing tribute to j Murray's work in he field of Civil : Liberties, recalled that Murray once said: "1 grew up as a coal miner. When i was a boy I lived in a j mining community where there was no problem of discrimina- tion in housing. I happened lo live next door to a colored ! family. The father was chair man of our mine committee and 1 was president, ol the local union. We got along all right.
