Status For Negroes In Few Years
DURHAM All obstacles to the
Negro's achievement of Brat-class
citizenship will be removed “in
your life time”, Harry Golden, tun

riers will mean “greater, not lee*
responsibility” for them.
The Negro's salvation, he con
tinued, lies In "more education and

“the only way for you In a world
where Negroes will have to take

city schools are racially segregated
in B eornplatnt filed in Federal Dis
trict court last week.
James A Sandtfer. attorney for
the NAACP, said It was the Brat
school segregation complaint to be
joined by whites.
The complaint asked that tha
Board of Education be enjoined
from continuing the alleged segre
gation in the city school* It said
that the board had unlawfully and
unconstitutionally made and en
forced regulations aaahlishlng cer
tain racially segregated public
schools In the eity.
"We’re not saying at this moment
that this segregation is intentional
or deliberate In the true acne* of
the word”, Sandtfer said, ’hut it is
harmful and wrong and there is a
positive need for the board to do
something about it."
The complaint listed twenty-two
children from ten families aa plain
