W. Re vis. English teacher, attend ed North Caroline College at Durham; Howard Cunningham, spent six weeks at North Carolina State in a course in Guidance; Mra. Ida E. Washington attended the Mathematics Institute in New Eng land at Boston College. Richmond E. Stewart, commerce teacher, gained valuable practical experience as the first Negro clerk at Sears and Roebuck Company In Durham; Mrs. Lucille H. Webb ma triculated at State University Col lege at Oneonta, New York where she completed the requirements for her master’s degree. Mrs. E. H. Brown travelled to historical places while collecting li brary resource material; J. L. Ed wards, band instructor, attended North Carolina State College and participated with the capital city concerts in local programs; J. E. Burke conducted math classes at Ligon and attended a late summer session at A&T College; Mrs. P. M Cunningham, taught typing at Lig on and Shaw University during the summer. Mrs. S. V. Perry used her time for professional travel and refer ence resource study; Miss E. M. Year gin toured historical sites in several northern cities and partici pated in the "Freedom March.” She also lectured at Shaw University. Mrs. Gertrude Harris English tea chers, was also a visitor of several cultural and historical places of significance. Hubert Poole matriculated at North Carolina State College, tak ing a course in sociology; Mrs. E. D. Tools conducted a homemaking workshop at Ligon the first part of the summer and attended the ann ual home etonomics conference at A&T College; Mrs. E. M. Kelly did research reading and toured histo rical sites. Mrs. Rosalie Williams, Spanish tacher and senior class advisor, taught for six weeks at Va. Stats in the foreign language institute and seminars. P. U. Watson attended the Coun selling and Guidance Institute at N. C. State, Raleigh. Harris, interim president, Shaw University, has an nounced that a course in Driver Education will begin at Shaw Uni versity on Saturday, September 21. Persona interested will meet with William Spann, instructor, in Sci ence Hall, Room 4, at 10 a. m. on the above date. In addition, courses will bo made available te High School graduates who find it impossi ble to matriculate on a full-tims basis, a* follows: Freshman English and Western Civilisa tion. Courses for inservice teachers will be made available according to nee din such areas as Education, English and the social sciences.
