WEEKLY MEDITATION
BY COLIN DOUGLAS
A SERMONETTE
“Show thy marvelous loving
kindness.” Psalms 17:7.
Resolve today, and every day, to
be kind in thought, wore, and deed.
Try your very best to bring only
joy, only peace, only love into the
lives of all the persons with whom
you come into contact. Resolve to
be kind, not only to your friends,
but to keep yourself lovingly sensi
tive to the needs of those who tim
idly stand apart —for we all know
that God does not want any of His
children to feel alone.
Resolve, when another person
makes a mistake, that you will not
condemn him in your thoughts or
with any outer signs of displeasure
that you will act toward him
as you would have him act toward
you if you were in his place. And,
if words of correction seem advis
able, you will speak in a kindly
and considerate tone of voice.
Employees Hear About
Burglars From 1 Who Is
If you want to know how to
guard against burglars, aak one
Humble News, employee publica

ries a story on how to protect your
home against burglars. It was writ
ten by a convicted burglar who is
now a prisoner at the State Prison
of Southern Michigan.
An Inmate at the prison ask

their fire by responding irritably
but that you will think of God, so
that your thoughts of Him may im

By adhering to these resolutions,
you will change your world, filling
it with love, joy, peace and harmo
ny. For if you radiate nothing but
lcve, kindliness, patience, tolerance,
and generosity toward all the per

but attract these same qualities to
yourself. Established in the Spirit
of God, you will always walk along
the right path. Imbued, through
prayer, with the power of His Pre

all barriers, and you will achieve
your goals with the ease of a con

formative (how to avoid having
a house stolen right off Its
foundation)”. After checking
with prison authorities and
getting official approval, Hum
ble News ordered the story.
It is a good one.
"Homes," says the veteran burg
lar, "simply aren't designed with,
bi.rglars in mind; very few residen
tial buildings are, aside from peni
tentiaries."
In addition to the known precau
tions such as notify the milkman,
mailman and paper boy when you
leave your house unoccupied, he
gives some other good tips:
—Make sure you have a good set
of locks with dead bolt mechanisms
that can't be opened with a strip of
celluloid.
—ls you must hide a spare key
outside the house, hide it at least
10 feet from the door.
—When you go out, at least one
light burnng in the house will dis
courage' burglars, and the beet place
for it is in the bathroom.
—ls you are going to be gone for
more than three days, notify the po
lice and let them know the approxi
mate date of your return.
—Keep a record of serial num
bers of all guns, cameras, typewrit
ers, and appliances to expedite
insurance claims in case your house
is burgled.
—Dogs are excellent burglar in
surance, but if you take yours with
you when you leave home, make
certain his empty kennel isn't too
conspicuous. Added to other small
signs, this can tell an experienced
burglar all he needs to know.
What about the burglar-au
thor? lie is now serving 2 to 2
1-2 years on an “attempt'd
breaking and entering ante'*
charge. He expects to rejoin
the outside world In early
spring or late summer next
year.
What about his future?
He says: “I don't plan to return
to my illegal profession.”
