DURHAM—Dr. Jose Maria Man
cha, the distinguished Spanish or
ganist, played a recital on Sunday,
January 5, at 8 p. m. at Saint Phi
lip’s Church, Durham. Dr. Mancha
is Titular Organist of the Cathe
dral Church of Madrid, a post ha
has held since 1935.
Ha panned his musical stu
dies under the eminent former
organist of St Peter's Basilica
in the Vatican City, Maestro
Fernando German!, and later
with Herr Anton Heillor of
Vienna. Mancha has given re
citals in Brand ana via. England,
The Netherlands, dad South
and Control America.
He played the following program:
Prelude and Fugue in B Minor,
Bach; Tiento in the Fourth Tone,
and Pavana Italians, and Dlferen
das on *Las Vacas’, Antonio de

will return to the Winter Garden
here, where she mr.de her last
Broadway appearance in the “Zieg
field Pollies" in 1936, to headline
a star-studded show baginning Jan
uary 9.
Her show at the Garden, called
“An Evening With Josephine Ba
ker," will include 13 dancers and
will feature Miss Baker in songs
and dances. During the dancing
