The 31,000 Scouts and leaders in the Occoneechee
Council, Boy Scouts of America, are joining the other 5
million Scouts in America, in the celebration of the 54th
year of Scouting in America, according to the Reverend
J. Oscar McCloud, chairman of the Wake Division. More
than 1500 Scouts in the Wake Division are conducting
a
programs, open house for parents, special Skits, demon
strations in their meetings, and many other events dur
ing this anniversary week.

Raleigh Joins In 54th Anniversary Boy Scout Celebration

These Cub Scouts were among the 100 Scouts that visited Seymour Johnson Air Force
Base on February Bth. Pack 45. is made up from the State School for the Blind and Deaf
which is located on the Old Garner Road Mrs. Ellison on the right of this picture is the
Scouts Den Mother. This trip is one of many planned by the Wake County Division of the
Occoneechee Council during the 54fh anniversary. All Scouts observed National Scout Week,
February 7-13.

reported that over 400 Scouts toured the Seymour John
son Air Force Base in Goldsboro last Saturday. Accord
ing to the Reverend Howard, many of the churches used
special ‘‘bulletin covers” for Scout Sunday service this
week. Many Scouts will usher and conduct special pro
grams this week in churches, schools, and clubs.
Troop 198, sponsored by the St. Matthews A. M. E.
Church, on East Davie Street, will award “God and Coun
try” badges to Explorer Scouts next Sunday at 7:30 P.
M. A. O. Carmichael is Scoutmaster of the troop.
