his way to duty when he chanced
upon the attempted robbery, was
attempting to handcuff Robinson,
the latter broke away and crashed
through a plate glass window. He
dashed down a street with Kappe
in pursuit.
The policeman yelled at him to
"Halt. I don't want to shoot you,”
but Robinson kept running. Kappe
then fired two shots Robinson ran
about 100 feet and collapsed in a
gutter. He had been struck in the
back by a bullet that passed
through the body.
