DUNCAN Byers, Duncan Vic For Stale Presidency The NCTA, like any other organi zation, is not void of politics, but the framers of the constitution have made it possible that much of ihe trickery and skulduggery has been taken out. Friday will be election day and all qualified voters will go to the polling pace and cast their ballots. The ballot was prepared by an e lection committee and carries the names of hopefuls. Dr. Nelson Harris, perennial keeper of the finance, finds him self confronted with Harry K. Griggs of Reidsville. Dr. Lyons left hi* post as dean of Elizabeth City Teachers College, and assumed his duties as execu tive secretary here. He soon ex hibited the ability, tact and ex perience that it took to make the huge organization click. He has surrounded himself with an ade quate staff and the work has moved with a minimum of difficulty. Even though the Job. requires extensive planning and direction, he has found time to dig into the civic and political life of the com munity. When the remodling of Raleigh’s Municipal Auditorium made It necessary that new quarters be found to hold the annual conven tion and it was thought that the meeting would have to be moved to another city, it was his ingenuity that led to the facilities of N. C. State College. It was his planning of the particulars that enabled the meeting to be held without a hitch, on this vast campus. The matter of merging with the white teachers association has been going the rounds and Dr. Lyons lias had to represent the Associa tion in trying to bring about a satisfactory solution. He was quoted as being for progress, <n a recent statement but made It plain that his organization had much to offer and he did not favor being swallow ed up. He is reported as being favor stole to negotiations that would save the identify of the NCTA.
