“New emphases and approaches
are needed." if we are to rise to
our full potential and our full re
sponsibility.” Mrs. Caesarea Deb
nam, supervisor, Wake County
Schools, told Shaw University stu

We are challenged continuously
by the rcvoutlon of Communism,
by the revolution of freedom, the
revolution in science and technol
ogy, explosion of new knowledges,
population revo’utlon bringing
new boons and new dangers to
humanity, by the revolution in in
ternational relationships. Knowing
these challeres of today, what bet
ter or greater gift can we offer
the republic' than a teach and in
struct our youth?’
Through Teaclver Education and
Professional Standards, much is
being accomplished In teacher
welfare, standards, policies and
procedures. Fewer teachers are
leaving the profession, and a
greater number are reaching re
tirement age than did eight ysars
ago.
"You are invited to teach, if you
can measure up to the exacting de
mands of the profession," she
stated. The continuing cycle of
poor teachers, regardless of coior,
must be broken a- poor teachers
produce poor students.
