Some, In deed. have started by winning in the primaries and have gone on to become president. But others have done well in the primaries, yet have never even come near being nominated by their own par tie*. It’a ! something like this with faith. The primaries are like men tal assent, or intellectual faith. Before a person can be saved he must, of course, know about sin and salvation and must give men tal assent to what the Bible says about these things. He must agree that Christ died for man's sins. But while intellectual faith is a good start, it Is not enough to save. If you go on from there and trust yourself to Christ, who died for our sins <1 Cor. 15 : 3 >. that's fine: otherwise your Intellectual faith has done you no good WEEKLY MEDITATION BY COLIN DOUGLAS “Ths Lord tiood by me. and strengthened me; that through me the meanage mis hi be fully proclaimed." — ll Tim. 4:17. It Is wonderful to know that there Is something worthwhile for each one of us to do every day. and If we berrln each day with prayer, we shall meet It success fully. Aa we look to Ood for our Inspiration before doing anything, we prepare ourselves to go for ward. strengthened In faith and God wants our heart trust; it is this kind of faith that honors Him, and it is this kind of faith that saves. In Romans 10:9, 10. He says: ‘ If thou shalt confess with thy j mouth Jesus as Lord, and shalt i BELIEVE IN THINE HEART that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For WITH THE HEART MAN BE LIEVETH unto righteousness: and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture saith: Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed . . . For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” If Christ is not a risen, living ; Savior, He is no savior at all. We | must believe tills in our hearts if we are to call upon Him for salva- I tion. Thank God that "He showed Himself alive, after His passion, by many Infallible prrxifs" ' Acts 13 1 and that millions have in deed found the peace and joy of sins forgiven through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His re i demptive work at Calvary. receptive to new Idea.* If we are beginning something new today, God will give us the courage and faith that we need to accomplish it If we need a fresh viewpoint and renewed faith to go jon with what we have already ; started, we can surely gain them ; through our communion with the 1 Father in prayer There are err ■ tain persons who hesitate to try to fulfill their aspirations because they do not feel adequate to the : demands of achievement, because they feel there is far too much to learn, far too much competition to meet. Any accomplishment takes es-1 fort, of course But when we real- I ice that we have the Infinite pow- j ier of Orhl to draw upon and that i accomplishment Is a matter of day-by-day effort, then the ful fillment of our aspirations be comes possible We feel equal to this day's earning, this clay's ap plication. As dnv follows day. con fidence grows within us—but we must remember always that this! springs from Ck>d. and that we can , draw from His source only through regular prayer and reguiar appli cation of His principles of Oood As we pray, we are renewed In faith, courage, and inspiration— and as we press forward with our minds open to inspiration and our vision uplifted, we shall be suc cessful and victorious—joyously triumphant! What t« the mean ing of the t, rm “valedictory" ad dn-vP V B ANSWER In earlier day*, stu dent siH-iilcing at commencement was popular In the colleges and universities, the highest ranking student delivered the “valedictory" I oration. This oration is considered i the "farewell" address which can bo descriptive of many subjects The second highest ranking stu dent delivers the salutatory ora 1t on which is the "wetcon e *d dtess". Often the third ranking student delivers what i* devibed as the i class oration, and .sometimes the | best speaker m the class gets this 1 assignment. In college, these addresses should j noi exceetl 12 minutes each: and j iin high school, five minutes is i sufficient.
