LOUIS (ANi —A policeman here last week shot to death a 42- w 3r-old man who had stabbed his ife after she tried to stop him from stabbing himself to death in i suicide attempt. He was Joseph M. Stewart, whs was pronounced dead at Cite Hospital, after he advanc ed on him with a metal letter opener and Ignored the offi cer's order to halt. Prewett and another policeman had gone to the building where S:ewart lived to investigate the rharge that he had stabbed his wife. The manager of the build ing had called police after Stewart's wife. Officer Prewett and his com panion found the door to Stewart's thud-floor apartment locked.
