Mr*. Lucy W. Tabron, Dur ham, an active worker in civic organization*, was cited with the honor and received several courtesies during the obser vance. She was introduced at the special worship services at Moore Grmnasium by Miss Peggy Martin. Greensboro, “Mis* A A T,” accepted an or chid from Mr*. L. C. Dowdy, wife of the AAT College Presi dent, given by college students, and was guest of honor at the military review by the Joint Air Force and Army cadet Corps and at the luncheon given for nearly 1,000 visiting parents. Besides two daughters, Betty and Vandora. now sophomores at A & T, Mrs. Tabron has a daughter, Shir ley. attending North Carolina Col lege, another. Ruby, a graduate of the same institution, and a son. Richard, who has been admitted to A&T for next fall. One son, Charles, is now in the Army, and two other sons. Speaking as “A tribute to women, a tribute to mothers and a tribute, to Negro mothers”, Dr. Mays told the audience that the status of wom en in this country had always been a paradox. "Man. throughout history.” he said, "is supposed to have loved, adored and had special affection for his women. Yet, throughout his tory, what has been done to domi nate and to keep women down, man had done." He said, women, like the Negro, nave had to fight for freedom, hi a long, long struggle even to be counted as a person. He cited examples of laws which had been enacted to deny women their basic rights.
