He is active in the religious and civic life of the city, being a member of St Titus' P. E. Church and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Spaulding is a graduate of More house College with the A. B. degree in Business Administration. He has pursued advanced studies at Atlan ta University School of Business, New York University Graduate School of Business, and North Caro lina College Graduate Department of Business. Spaulding began hit employment with North Carolina Mutual In May, 1061. Prior to that time, he had held employment with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company;, the New York Life In surance Company; United States Trust Company of New York as Senior System Analyst. Spaulding ia married to the for mer Miss Shirley B. Atwell of Brooklyn, N. Y, and they are the parents of e daughter, Pamela Prances. Mrs. McCrea joined the Compa ny's Home Office staff as Steno grapher in the Industrial Depart ment in 1944. She was appointed Acting Chief Clerk of the Industrial Department in 1950; Chief Clerk in 1951; and waa made Manager of the department and placed on the Staff of Administrative Personnel January l 1952. She was later ap pointed Administrative Assistant in the office of the Secretary; named Assistant to the Secretary in 1957; end elected to the official staff of the company as Assistant Secretary on January 11, 1900. A native of Salisbury, Mrs. McCrea received her college training at North Caro lina College. She has pursued other courses in accounting and auditing and ia presently furthering her training in life insurance through oourses offered by Life Office Management Association Institute. Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the first white person to re ceive a diploma from the previ ously all-Negro institution. Stelnhauser. a teacher at the Wilkes-Barre Memorial High School, was awarded the master of science degree In education, with concentration In chemistry. Halleck L. Do nelson. Newport. Oregon, another white man. earn ed the same degree, but was not present at the commencement ex ercises. Mrs. Chitambara charged that her husband beat her frequently and wouldn’t let any of her relatives come to visit her. The part which astounded the court was that Livingstone “had a mean habit of counting the piece* of meat eve ry time I finished cooking, to make sure none of my relatives share a meal with ua He hates my people very much.” That did it, the court granted the divorce without fur ther ado. Dr. Dowdy urged, “Be a first-class oltlatn—go forth In this land to bring credit to your selves and to the alma mater. We ask that you demonstrate to the world that you are an educated person.” By UNCF: Barber-Scotia Given 174 G’s For Building CONCORD—President L. 8. Co ra rt announced at the commence ment exercises on Monday that Barber-Scotia College had received the sum of $174,000 as its share in the first distribution of the funds collected from the United Negro College Fund Capital Fund* Cam paign. The president announced that this money would be used for the building program now in pros pect. At this program. Dr. Jehu Hope Franklin, toe commence ment speaker, admonished the grad nates to pursue the truth wherever It may lead. He said to them that they had boon trained to analyse facta and ta determine that which ia true, and that they should pursue truth relentlessly end courage ously which is a mark of char acter. At the baccalaureate exercise on Sunday, Dr. J. Ernest Somerville told the graduates that they should prepare their minds and wills to take certain calculated risks in life.
