I Tarboro Road, reported at police headquarters at 4:01 p.m. Thurs day, that someone stole his son’s bicycle sometime Wednesday af ternoon. The Western Flyer 26- mch model was red. The com plainant told the officer on duty he has a suspect in the theft. THINKS GIRL TOOK WALLET, MONEY Miss Alice Lewis, of 9 S. Fisher Street, told Officer O. C. Pratt at 12:49 pan. Friday, that Miss Ella Mae Watson, 17, of 102 S. Fisher Street, came to her home to use the telephone and she (Miss Lew is) left the room in order to give her privacy. Later in the morning, she re ported, she was in the room beside the phone, and discov ered a ladies’ black wallet, containing one dollar bill, a quarter, a dime and a five eent stamp missing. The wal let also contained some val uable papers, the complainant stated, and belonged to Miss Rita Austin of 9 S. Fisher St. Miss Lewis added, “I am sure the missing items were in the room before Ella Watson came.” She declared no one else had been in the house before or after she found the property stolen. He stated Miss Bledsoe stole one package of luncheon meat, valued at 29 cents and a pack age of wieners, costing 33 cents. Miss White is accused of “making off” with two pairs of women's hose. 99 cents each and some chicken, valued at 95 cents. Warrants were signed and Offi cers E. D. Whitley and G. W Wil liams placed both women in Wake County Jail on shoplifting raps. SEES BOYS “SWIPE” SHOES Mrs. E. L. Tilton, white, owner of Tilton's Shoe Shop. 403 E. Da vie Street, informed Officers W. A. Lamm and R. E. Keeter at 1:55 pjn. Friday, she saw two Negro youths come into the shop and steal a pair of brown, low quarter shoes, valued at $5.50. The only description the woman could give was that both appeared to be about 18 years old and wore small-brimmed hats. HUBBY ASSAULTS MATE Mrs. Martha Taylor, of 205 Pugh Street, reported to Of ficers C. R. Aycock and Bob by B. Coats at 1:10 a.m. Sat urday, her husband, Marvin Taylor, beat her up with his hands and fists. ARRESTED Mrs Louise Byrd Blue 23, of 1409 New Bern Avenue, and Johnnie Byrd, 17, of the same address were arrested in the 400 block of S. Bk>odworth Street at 10: p. m., Saturday and charged with engag ing in an affray. “BIG WILLIE” BEATS MAN IT James Williams, of 1324 Holman Street, told an officer at 6:46 p. m. Saturday, he was in Edna's All- Night Case. 213 W South Street, when a man called "Willie", who is heavy-set and “lives somewhere on Cannon Avenue,” picked him up from the floor, and threw him down against the cement floor again, causing a laceration of the scalp. He was taken to Wake Me morial Hospital by an ambulance, where he was treated for his wound. CLAIMS EX-BOYFRIEND ATTACKED HER Miss Ann Davis, of 529 Cannon Avenue, who works at a bar- , bershop. located at 315 W. South St., reported to a cop at 7:57 p. m. Satur day that her ex-boyfriend, Arthur McNeil, came into the shop and asked her to come outside. When she refused, the com plainant stated, “He knocked me down and kleked me." She signed s warrant and McNeil was placed in Wake County Jail, charged with assault and battery. (Bobby) Daye at 8:19 a. m. Sunday, that while he was walking through Chavis Park, two men drove up in a car and asked for his money. However Mr. Moses reached into his pocket and produced a knife instead. He declared the men fol lowed him to the intersection of Patterson Lane and E. Lenoir St., then left. No money was taken by the mystery duo. WIFE-BEATER GOES TO JAIL Mrs. Delores Jean Jeffries, of 532 E. Edenton Street, informed two cops at 4:09 p. m. Sunday, that her husband. Lonnie Jef fries, beat her with hts hands and fists at thetr home. She signed an assault and battery warrant and Mr. Jeffries was last known to be languishing in the Waloe County Jail. Davie Street, who has served as Supt. of the Home Department of First Baptist Church's Sunday School for many years, was honored on a recent Sunday at the 11:00 a.m. service. She was awarded a plaque by the pastor, the Rev. Charles W. Ward, as Sunday School Supt., Mr. W. H. Tay lor, Sr. looked on. The entire church congregation heard Mrs. Dunn praised in Rowing terms. A native of Raleigh. Mrs. Dunn is a deaconess and is the widow of the late Mr. P. H. Dunn. He railed her back and asked her to “empty the hand bag. He said the woman left the store then He came to police headquarters and signed a war rant and Miss Boyd was taken to Wake County Jail and booked for larceny. THREE BOYS BEAT MAN, WOMAN Joseph Ray Alston, of 818 E. Davie Street, reported to Officers B. R. Lee and Jimmy Pierce at 12:18 a.m. Saturday, that Bobby Earl Bullard. Ivan Brooks and Willie Brooks, all of Route 4, Zebu lon. attacked him with their hands and fista In the 600 bock of E Davie Street. He signed warrants a gainst all three for assault and battery. Mrs. Elizabeth Alston, also of 616 E Davie Street, told the cop* Ivan Brooks beat her in the face with hts hands and fist*. She signed a separate warrant against Ivan. YOUNG BOYS FACE MANY RAPS A 12-year-old boy who lives st 712 Fayetteville Street, and a 10- year old child, of 112 Bledsoe Ave.. were charged Friday with stealing the following items from the Pep Boys' Store, Fayetteville Street: one mirror and one light, for a bi cycle, valued at $3. and an electric horn for a bike, costing $2. To add Insult to injury, they went out to State College on Hillsboro Street and stole a blryrle to plare these Items on. The bike was valued at *SO. Police officers were unable to find the bicycle's owner, but did charge the boys with larceny as i petitions were drawn against them. MAN GIVEN FRAUD CHECK Ahe Scott, of 816 E. Davie Srt.. who operate* Scotts Grill. 702 E. Martin Street, reported at 11:35 p m Friday, that David Gille.pie gave him a check for 554.63, signed by James T. Bell and retomed marked. “Un able to locate.’’ Mr Scott said he had a telephone number where he could contact Gillespie about the fraud check. ROBBED TWICE IN SAME PLACE Nathaniel Lawson of Knight dale, Informed Officers F. L. Barham and M. L. Stephenson at 2:01 s. m. Saturday, that on Friday night he wsa on Fay etterill Crossing when two youths, about 18 years of age. carried him Into the rear of the Price Is Rite Grocery, where they relieved him of *l7 tn currency. Lawson also stated these same boys had robbed him of *92 two week* ago In the same location, but he did not report 11 until Saturday The Fri day robbery took place about *:3O p. m. Watson said he had no idea who did the damage. The incident occurred between 6:30 and 10:30 p.m . and damage was estimated at $lO5.
