Daniel, head of the Department of the English Department at Saint Augustine's College, has been appointed by the National Council of Teachers of English to be one of the offic ial Judges of the Achievement A wards Program for 1954, accord ing to Dean P. R Robinson The purpose of this national competition la to grant recogni tion to high school seniors who exhibit excellence In English Rec ognition la also extended to the schools and staff members who have shared In the training of these outstanding students. Regional Judging committees will evaluate the writing abilities and literary awareness of all nom inees during the summer month* After the announcement of final ists In late November, their names will be sent to all universities and colleges In the United State* with a recommendation that these stu dents be considered for scholar ship ■ sal stance. YWCA Activities THE YWCA CLOSES ITS DAT CAMP The Y-Taan Day Camp closed with a fine and lively program on Ynday night, July 31st. *t Taylor Hall, Saint Augustine's College Tb* Day Campers gave demonstrations of each activity and the urns of the YWCA and Ha program The pro gram aimed at developing the bead, heart hands and body, that if. the spiritual, mental and physical tell of the whole child. Some 0t the highlight* of the program was the dance* and drills of the larger girls drill team and the grand march The girls ex perienced many special treats and experience* such at swimming, hik ing, educationcal tour* and picnics. Each day began with inapiriational devotions planned by the children themselves.
