THE CABOUNIAN RALEIGH. N. C.. SATURDAY, AUGUST 22. IBM 6 WEEKLY MEDITATION BY COLIN DOUGLAS “O worship the Lord in the beauty of hollne**.’’—Psalms M:L Take time today to be quiet and to listen to the still small voice of Spirit within you. Take time from your busy life to think quiet ly of good things. Take time to be thoughtful and kind in all your human relationships. Your reward will be a sense of peace and joy and satisfaction. Take time today to let the whis per of the wind, the song of the birds, and the laughter of children bring you the realization of Di vine Love Take time to think af fectionately of family, of friends and neighbors. You will certainly find a new happiness and a new cause for thanksgiving. Take time today to seek and to find the presence of eternal good ness by thinking quietly of the good things of God and of what mo minutes a mmjm WHAT N A CHURCH? It is strange but true that most people—even the great majority of religious people do not know what a church la. Ask the aver age man what a church is, and he’s apt to reply "Well, anybody knows that! A church is a build ing where people go to worship Ood." But this is not correct. The word translated church, in our Bibles, simply means assem bly. A church is not a building, but the assembly that meets In the building. Technically, a church is not even a religious gathering, for the same word is used in Acts 19 32 of a riotous mob which had assembled at Ephesus, and this verse says that this assembly was confused and that "the greater part knew not wherefore they were oome together.” Perhaps this could apply to many s rhprrp to- Honor Grad Gets New Grant GREENSBORO Mias Bertha Blok ley. of Bristol, Vs., a IBM hon or graduate of Bennett College, hat been awarded a graduate scholar ship by the Smith Collegs School of Social Work, at Northampton, Maas., it was announced this week Gradasled with a major In sociology and a miner In psy chology, Mias Htekley, who was valedictorian of her class at DengUm High School la the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Era ast Btekley. The church of which the Bible has most to say U "the Church of God, which He hath purchased With His onw blood” <Acts 20:28) and St. Paul calls this church, "the Body of Christ,’’ or "the Church which is His Body” (1 Cor 12:27; Eph. 1:21. 22). Men cannot J&lnthii. Church by water baptism or any other re ligious rite, but only by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. With re gard to believers in Christ St. Paul declares: "By one Spirit are we all baptized in too ne Body" <1 Cor. 12:13), And in Rom. 12:3 the apostle says that “ye, being many, are one body In Christ.” Many sincere people have had their names on local church rolls for many years before learning this great truth—that the true CluuUi us GuU is iiut & building, butt he body of those who trust in Christ as their Savior. Doubtless, people in snd out of the many of the religious organi zations we call churches, belong to this one great Bible Church, while others, with all their relig ious profession, do not.
