with the troubles and afflictions of thi* world,
»ome eighty year* before ke was called to ]
leave it On the l«tk ot October 1*13 he i
waa first married and had one son, who i* now !
living, but had the nuafortviie to noon lose \
ku wife, and in 1.817, t he 2»id of October, he I
married the second time. Like faithful hu*- !
band and wifetliey lived happy together, raised
two tons and six daughtem, kis children all j
star* in the family and luminous ornament* j
toaociety. In August 1821 he joined the
Baptist Church at Ebenezer in Person County
and in October following he wa* chosen
Deactn for the Church, and in May 1830 wa*
made clerk and fulfilled promptly the dutie*
of both offlcee till he w.as phy.«ic*lly afflicted
and disabled. He lived an exemplary life, and
retained an m lim'ahed tl arait-v both in
and out of the Church. When the great
aplit took place in the B.'iptist denomination
he wa* not carried about with every wind of
doctrine but remained unmoved and unshaken
always abounding in the work of the Ix)rd,
a* he knew his labor in the lx>rd
wa* not in vain. FIc wa.s a strong arm in the
(, hurch, Assistant Clerk in the Association
and highly respected in civil wx;iety. My
pen feel* its incompetency in giving him the
eulogies ki* name merits. He was among
the firmUt Baptiste I ever knew, but like all
nature, “From dust be cams and to dust be
most return.” -‘Not unlike David wheji he
served his generation he fell aslwp and was
gatherel unto hi* Fathem.” He was afflicted
some time; about two week before his death,
he told me his faith was the same, and the
eleventh aay of Feburay 1873 the day of his
death hi* fitith was still strotig. for he said I
shall soon be gone Oh 1 God take me home.”
Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord,
from henceforth yea, saith the spirit that
they may rest from their labor.*, and their
works do follow them.” “Mark the perfect
man and behold the upright, for the end of
that man i* peace.”
lyouisa J. Torian, wa* born August the
second 1840, was married to Dr. Thomjjson,
the eleventh of April 1860, and diel at
her residence in Leesburg N. C. on the
twelveth of May 1873 of Pulmonary disease
She left to mourn her loss a husband and six
little children. She w.as a dutiful child and
■ na.gecjipiiate wife, .a kind mother and much
' loved and esteemeil Ifloi J 'She
was not satisfied with her hope of eternal sal—
tion until a short time before her death, hav
ing been concerned from her youth. She
was happy and reeigm-d. Her last woi d*
were, “i* heaven my homo, Jesus says so, I
shall soon be there” and then fell asleep in
the arras of Jesiw.
Je*uH can mak a dying bctl.
Feel .soft as downy pillow* are ;
While on his breast they lean their heads,
And breath their lives out .sweetly there.
May God sanctify thi* dispensation of hi*
providence to the good of the aged widow
and all the relatives and friends of the much
miased deceased is the earnest and humble
prayer of the feeble writer.
