Cowles, Wilkea. of Gen. Terry, of Wytheville, Va., one of the lending law yers oft hat State, wasdrow; -ed last week whilegninghonie from Gravwon court Mr. Adams conies be f )re the people of Watauga as the choice of the Democratic party. Mr. Crisp comes be fore them as the choice of a small part of the Republican party. Col. Dockery, who voted for a negTo lawyer rather than a white farmer, for the Legislature, in 1884, ansgot t ired of the joint discussion. He don't like the way Fowlc handles him. . He prefers to go alone. WTe dont much blame him, we rather think we would be like him. If we had such a record as Dock ery, we would'nt favor a joint canvass with any body .and certainly not with Judge Fowle. The Democratic Conven tion met in Boone lnsff Mon - day and nominated T. P. Ad iitis for the legislature. Mr. Adams is an unassuming far mer, but with all a good kj leaker and a clever gentle man. ' It had been generally understood, for some weeks, that Mr. Adams would get the nomination, so that he tomes before the people as the people's choice. While his opponent, Mr. Crisp, tomes before the people as a Hurprise, as a man nominat- d not by the people of his party, but against their will and by a political trick. No fcody claims that Mr. Crisp is the choice of the party, and many of tlie leading re publicans feel that his nomi nation was an outrage, and fbat their wishes have been . - 1 11 wi'.l indeed b-aveeo !vs-:,i i 2 I- Ecry ?tirj icud Fi t. , T r .h.tho.I.st Iiie.lt. her Hi Mol.tS-- u,ro..pok;H,ImrN,n,u,M. - i i ii Tor u rohi ,non. 1, S,msU. ijrm-t., .;.- pul.hhttt ithout l: 1 ii.O lv. We Democrats of Meat ('amp township have organized a Cleveland and Fowlo club at Soda Hill, and will meet again Sep. 22 , we hope that all patriotic Dem ocrats will be out and show they are for the white man's party. The good people of Meat Camp don't propose be ing ruled by the kinkey head or Republican party. It is hard to distinguish a white Republican from a negro as they all have the same smell. I don't think they will smell so loud after the election, for the Democrats will bury them so deep that they will- never be heard of again.
