Mr. Editor:-In vour last issue of the Ih-mocrnt I no (tiee you ha vean article on ;sujersfii!(iu, which upon the j whole is very good, but I beg to tak isMie with you in ref erence to tha part of it, I which condcnis the time hon ored custom of consulting the piiaM of t ho moon, in planting crops. Intelligence always con dems suer.stition and prop erly so, but a more intelli gent and thoughtful! consid eration of what is ortea considered superstition, will reveal only the true princi ple of science and natural causes. So I think what you denominate a supeisti tion, in planting by the moon, i a well founded principle of Natural Science, which is born out by practi tle tr-sis and se'entifirdis-ov-eries. It is a well settled principle of science, that the moon produces what are known as the " Luner tides" of the ociv.n. Now if this be true then why. i;j reason, is not itn effect fe't on land .as well as on the ocean? The Romans were among 'the most intelligent and ad vanced people of the past cental ies, they gave us the "Zodiac" which to day is consulted and relied upon, by the intelligence of the land, as evey one knows by experience, it is safer to consult its signs. I men tion only these instances of the effects of t he moon, but many others could be given. I therefore respeccfully sub mit MY. Editor that you strike from your list of super stitions the followers of the moon faith, and I agr e with, you as to the remainder of the article. Farmer. fc3Xot!ce.
