On last Wednesday night, someone prompted by ttie whisperings of the devil, ap plied the incendiary's torch to the Baptist Church on Xorth Fork of Cove Creek, and when the morning came all that was left to mark the spot where the house of (Jod had stviod was a heap of ash es. This is the second house burning which has taken place in that neighborhood within the past few weeks, and we hope to see the perpe trator of such hellish crimes brought to speedy justice. 'Tis 'vith much sorrow that we chronicle tin don Mi of that good man ard able editor, John F. Murrill, of Hickory, which oc curred at his , homo on the Gth mat., at the ago of Gl years. Mr fliurriil was a man who was uni versally loved for his many ster ling qualities of mind and heart. In him was truly exemplified the highest type of a Christian geiv Menian. Erudite, polite, and kind; his memory will long be cherish ed by his fellow-nit'ii. Mis appeals through his paper, the 'Press and Carolinian', iu behalf ol'thecauue I of temperance in the State will long redound to his credit. 1 ru ly "when a good man dies the people mourn.'"
