He contends that inns much ns the State was radis tricted by the Legislature of 1901 with the idea of making ten Democratic districts that work should be allowed to stand, . notwithstanding there was au error In the en I nutation, which has resulted in the Republicans capturing odo district. ' Furthermore bur correspondent who is n Republican, ns will be sur raised, contends 'that inas much as the Democrats with nine ' members of Congress, have one representative lor e a c h 14,444 Democratic votes cast for . Glenn, surely they chould notbegrudgethe 79,dQ0i Republicans who vo ted for , Harris for governor one, representative1 in Con gress. - ',' "' . On the face of it this is a fair proposition, . The Char lotte Chronicle the other day quoted leadihgCharfotte Dem oerats' as haying "that the Democrats titrgh t to. give the Republicans one congressioir al district in this State mak ing the others certainly Dem ocratic. But do those Meck lenburg Democrats want their county in a Republi can district? We trow not. They are mighty fair as they are not affected. But they don't want to be in a Repub lienn district; neither do the Iredell Democrats. Therefore The Landmark will say now that it'dpes. not object to but favors any reasonablechange in the make-up of this con gressional district that will make it surely' Democratic. If the .Mecklenburg. Demo crats want the Republicans to have a district letMecklen burg and other counties of like mind be out into a Dist. that will be Republican. The Landmark is yet partisan enough to prefer that its county be in a Democratic district and it will continue to labor to that end so long as the Republicans elect men of the Blackburn type to Congress. "If they can't do any better than that they really don't deserve any rep resentation. ' Zfut we have said that it would appear fairto give the republicans a representative in CoDgress from tbis State, and it would if politics was conducted on a fair basis, bnt it isn' t. So far as we know it has been for years the universal custom of Dem o c r a t e and Republicans, wherever they controlled, to take all they could get, In the Republican States of the North and West are districts made up for Democrats? Rare ly, if ever. The Democrats who get in from those states get in ..like the Republicans from the south unexpected ly.. Inthe next Congress, for instance, the States of Cali fornia jDoiornoo Kansas, New Hampshire Maine, Oregon, o li t b Dakota. Vermont. ginia will have solid Republi can delegations, comprising 44 members. Thene stares were of course gerrymander ni to keep Democrats out. Who can recall, for instance, when a Democrat has gone to Congress from Maine?nn1 are not the Maine Democrats as much entitled to represen tation In Congresa as t h e North Carolina Republican Whenever the Republican StateB give the Democrats a fair show in the?e matters The La tirl mark will innist that North Carolina should divide her representation. But until that time, or until there is a great improvement in the character of mn nam ed for Congress by the Repub licansin North Carolina, we shall, wicked as it may ap pear, not onlr consent to but approve of such an arrangp ment ofjdistrictsas will send Democrats to Congress. FIGHT WILL BE BITTER. Those who will persist in closing their ears against the continual re commendation 01 Dr. -King's New Discovery for consumption, will have a long am" bitter, fight with their troubles, if not enoVd eariier by fatal termination. Read what T. R, Beall of Beall Miss, has to say "Last fall my wife had every symp torn of consumption. She took Dr. Kind's New Discovery after every thing else had failed. Improve. ment came at once and lour Dottles entirely cured her." Guaranteed by M. B, Blackburn. Price 50c and fi.oo. Trial bottles free. THE KEY THAT UNLOCKS THE DOOR TO LONG LIVING The men of aighty five and ninety years of age are not the rotund well fed. but thin. sDare men who live on a slender diet. Be as careful as he will, however, a man past middle age, will occasionally eat too much or of some article of food not suited to his constitution and will need a dose of Chamberlain s Stomch and Liver Tablets to cleanse and invitr- orate his stomach and regulate his river and bowels. When this is done there is no reason why the average man should not live to an old age.. For sale by J, M. Moretz.
