The various hotels and board ing housos on the mountain are nearly full and more applying for rooms, the closing of the ever popular Sky land Inn on account of the failing health of its popu lar manager, Mrs. E. R. Steward, unfortunate, though the opening of the Martin House which is at tracting many visitors by its un surpassed magnificence and many attractions and comforts, caus ing many more to seek shelter in the village, the well known Wata uga Inn on the foundation of the old Watauga Hotel presided over by those popular hotelists, Mrs. W. P. Pendley and Mr. T. H.Cof fey, whose is h o u s e is al ways filled early in the season and remaining full to overflow ing throughout the entire Sum mer. The Weedon place, called Grand View House, but more appropri ately named by friends "Fair view" on account the rock of that name upon which the house stands and from which may be had one among the finest views East of the Rocky Mountains, so much traveled tourists say - Professor Harbin's band boys are doing good work and bid fair to prove a great attraction to Blowing Rock, especially on High Days and Holidays. k Mr. S. M. Clark, beloved father of Mrs. Harry C. Martin, is very low, having had several strokes of paralysis .recently, alarming the family and exciting the heart felt sympathy of Mr. and Mrs. Clark's many friends throughout the hill county where Mr Clark and his brother, '-Uncle Joe," have a host of friends and admirers. Huerta Passed off the Stage. Mexico City, July 16. General Victoriano Huerta resigned from the provisional presidency of the Mexican republic tonight and his resignation was accepted by the 6enate and chamber of deputies by a vote of 121 to 17. Francisco Carbajal then was appointed president and took the oath of office at the joint session of the deputies and senators. Huerta's resignation was sub mitted through the department of foreign relations. It was read in the house and wasgreeted with cries of "Viva Huerta." It then was referred to the joint commit tees of Gobernacion. After brief consideration the committees re ported, accepting the resignation. S Supreme Court, died suddenly in a hotel at Atlantic City. He was 70 years old. Mrs. E. W. Corraaek, widow of the late Senator Corinack of Tennessee, has been appointed post master at Columbia, Tenn. Wilson. N. C, has had her share of trouble from the recent storms. Trinity Coliege is bidding for the honor. The Hustler says that the Wa tauga and Yadkin River Railroad Co. has published a time table of their passedger trains and are mailing copies to citizens. .Mr. James Cash, ol fap of Reeds, Granville County, committ ed suicide on the 14th inst., by sending a bullet through his brain. He was a sufferer from pel lagra. Expert rat-killers dispatched 50,000 rats last week in New Or leans. This was done to prevent the spread of the Bubonic plague. Only four cases have been re ported. A man named Petty, 50 years old, was arrested in Lexington on the 14th inst., for kidnapping a twelve year old girl, the daugh ter ol W. H. Holder, of Harnett County. Mr. Stonewall J. Durham has become editorial writer for the Gastonia Gazette. The paper speaks of him as a man of .schol arly attainments and has a most engaging style. The Greensboro News says that for the past ten years North Car olina has been expending outside the State for automobiles, about a million dollars, to say nothing of oil, gasoline and parts for re pair. Rosa Carson, a negro, was lynched at Orangeburg, S. C. the 12th inst. She confessed to hav ing killed the 12 year old daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Bell. The child was beaten to death with a stick of wood. From a Washington dispatch we glean that Mr. Harry Ford, the Detroit Manufacturer, told President Wilson that he saw no evidence of any sort of business depression, and that in his opin ion business was getting better all the time. Victorian Huerta has resign ed as President of Mexico. He presented his resignation to the chamber of deputies the 15th inst. Our old friend and neign borhad been sick for sevpral days, but no serious appivhen- tions were felt concerning her, un til a few days before her deatn. Mrs. Blair was a good woman in every sense of the word, faithful to her family, church and friends. It can truly be bdid of her, as o Mary of old, she hath done what she could, and no doubt when the weary wheels of life stood still, she heard the welcome words, "well done good and faithful ser vant I will make thee ruler over manythings." Martin, at Blowing Rock this morning at 4 o'clock, . , , " from the effects of a second stroke of paralysis which he suffered ten days ago. His remains will be brought to Lenoir this afternoon and buried tomorrow in Belleville cemtery, the funeral services be ing conducted by Rev. Z. E. Barn hardt from the Methodistchurch at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon. Mr. Clark was about 76yearsof age and is survived by his wife, and five children as follows; Mrs. H. C. Martin, of Lenoir, Mrs. R. H. Blackwell, of Waynesville, W. D. Clark, of Statesville, A. S. Clark, of Copjier Hill. Tenn., and L. R. I lark, of Washington. He was an honored Confederate vet eran, and served through the Civil War as a member of Company A. 22nd N.C. Regiment. Hisleftarm was seriously wounded in one of the battles around Richmond. He received political honors at the hands of the people of Caldwell, having been register of deeds for 12 years or more, and deputy sheriff, also post master at Lenoir for some time. His service of the public was faithful and efficient, and leaves a clean record. He was a member of the first Metho dist Church of Lenoir, and lived an exemplary Christian life. While making an automobile trip from Lenoir to Hickory last Saturday, Mr. Mark Squires and young William Alley, his driver, narrow ly escaped a serious acci dent. Near Hudson, Mr. Squires was trying his hand at running the machine when he lostcontrol of it and the car ran up a bank and overturned, fastening Mr. Squires underneath. The auto fire and Nr. Squires was saved from cremation by the immediate assistance of Messrs. W. L. Ear nest and Cromwell Robbins, who lifted the car from him and extin guished the fire. Mr. Squires sus tained seueral painful bruises and young Alley had his arm sprain ed. The car is pretty badly dam aged. Lenoir Topic.
