tjfet Oatauga iStmocrat Town and County. LOST-TWO MASONIC EM blems. Reward at Critcher Hotel. We are having copioua rains now, but the weather is unusual ly cool for this season of the year. Mrs. J. Gordon Ballew, of Le noir, is a guest of Mrs. George H. Blair, on route 1. There will be the usual prea ching service in the Episcopal church at 11, a. m., on Sunday, Jrine 11. Mrs. W. 0. Coffey is at home again after a two-week's pleas ant visit to relatives in North Wilkesboro ond Jefferson. Just received at W. S. Miller & Co's. flour and feed stuff, also a car load of 16 per cent Phos phate. Lowest market prices. Rev. M. L. Carpenter, Luther an minister in charge of this work, will preach in the Methodist church in Boone at 3 o'clock, p. m., next Sunday. Little John, son of Mr. and Mrs. M P. Critcher, has been a very sick child for several days, but it is thought now that he is slightly better. Miss Henry Penn, a Daven port College graduate, who, since commencement, has been visit ing in Statesville and other towns returned to her home in Boone last Friday. We are indeed sorry to hear that Dr. R. D. Jennings, of Ban ner Elk, has been confined to his home for the past three weeks, suffering with inflamatory rheu matism, and is still but little im proved. : For this reason the Dr. was not here to meet his patients on the first Monday. Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Mast and daughter, Miss Maude, and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Mast, spent Tues day in town, the gentlemen com ingoverto attend the meetiug of the directors of the Watauga County Bank held in Boone on that day. Republican State Chairman Frank A. Linney and family left for Taylorsville last Saturday where Mrs. Lin ney and the children will remain until the return of Mr. Linney from the Republican National Convention now in session in Chi cago, 111. On last Monday the Board of County Cumuiissioners ordered a special school election for Boone district, to be held at the public school building in Boone on Sat urday, July 8. W. G. Hartzog is appointed registrar and M. B. Blackburn and T. E. Bingham Judges. A new registration will be necessary for those who wish to vote in this election. Mr. Pinkney Winkler, of the Austin settlement, on Flannery's Fork, inflicted a very serious wound on his foot with an axp, this, Wednesday morning. He was hurried to Dr. Jones in Boone, who did the sewing and dressing, and we trust the good citizen will recover rapidly from the unfortunate accident. In the primary on Saturday Capt. Edmund Jones, of Lenoir, Watauga's choice for Attorney General, received every vote in the Boone box, save one, and the wonder was who had made such a blunder. However it was all cleared awav when it was learn ed that a voter in marking his ballot, intended to vote for the Captain but checked one name too low down, his ballot coun- THa rlparincr S IlUK 1U1 iUUUUMpS C up of this little mystery was very irraiivincr to the many warm, n n Tl 1 personal friends of Captain Ld- mund Jones in jjoone, as wen us in the cpunty at large. AlMStttltDt Alter ohoitations by anuraber of my friends I .have decided to become a candidate for the oftice of Sheriff of Watauga county, subject to the Republican coun ty convention. . 2i. J. FJLMQRE COFFEY. At a meeting of the board of trustees of the A. T. S., held in Boone Monday night, it was de cided to erect the new dormitory for boys on the knoll betweeu the residence of Prof. D. D. Dougher ty and the dormitory now used by the young men. The site dci ded upon is easily the prettiest one iu the school section, of the town, and with a modern brick structure thereon, it will indedbe a beauty we think by far the prettiest in the entire cluster. The room in the old Baptist church in Boone, having become entirely inadequate to the ac commodation of the rapidly grow ing congregation, it has been a- greed by the pastor and mem bers that, beginning with next Sunday, both Sunday school and preaching services will be conduc ted in the court house until the new church is ready for occupan cy, which, at most, will be only a few weeks. -Mr. H. M. Dasher, of Hicko ry, President of the Watauga Eiectric Co., was in the village a few hours last Friday. He told The Democrat that some party or parties, have been guilty of shooting the insulators from the loug distance 'phone poles on Deck Hill. As this is quite a grave offense, the perpetrators had bet ter be a little careful, as Mr. Dasher has some "spotted" and is offering a very snug reward for the apprehension and convic tion of the guilty parties. On Friday night next Rev. and Mrs. M. A. Adams will cole- brate the 25th anniversary of their marriage. The people of all denominations have been cordi ally invited to attend, each visit or expected to bring a silver coin, (dollars preferable, of course) and deposit it with a lady at the entrance of the Baptist parson age. After the guests have all ar rived light refreshments will be served. Neither the minister nor his Jwife w ill be a beneficiary to the amount of one cent, their pleasure to be in meeting and en tertaining the people, but every dollar collected will .be used in completing the paronage. It is hoped that the good people will live tc see the happy return oi many, many more anniversaries of their wedding day, and that their most sanguine hopes on this, their 25tb, may be fully re alized. Mr. lotin Hayes Dies in Kentotky. On Wednesday of last week Mrs. James W hitehead, of Ban ner Elk. received the si. d intelli gence of the death of her broth- er, Air. jonn nayes, wuicu oc curred that day at some point in Kentucky, pneumonia being the cause of his death. The body was shipped to Elk park where ltwas met. hv two of his brothers. J H. and Dr. George Hayes, and in terment was made nearhis home on Brushy Fork. Mr. Haves went to Kentucky last March, where he put out a crop, expecting to move his fam ily there in the fall, He leaves a'large family, th?. most of whom are married. He was a son of the late Josph Hayes, and hBsmany relatives and friends in Watau ga who will hear of his death with genuine sorrow. Lead of Bickett Exceeds 25,000. Raleigh Special June S, to the' Char lotte Observer. Attorney General T. W. Bickett was nominated in the Statewide legalized primary of Saturday as the Democratic candidate for Governor bv about 25,000 ma jority over Lieutenant Governor E. L. Daughtridge. For Attorney General the iridi cations are that Judge J. S. Man ning of Wake has been nomina ted. For the other State offices all the incumbents all Demo cratshave been renominated. Majority Leader Claude Kitch in carries every county in the Second Congressional District, bis majority over Clingman W. Mitchell of Bertie being about 7,000. Congressman II. L. Godwin in the Sixth district will have to go into a second primary with J. A. Brown of Columbus. In the Se venth, Lee 1) Robinson of Anson hat a big lead over TJ. L. Spence of Moore, but it will take a sec ond primary to decide. In the Tenth district Zebulon V. Weav erof Ashevillo is the Democratic nnminpp. havincr received ft ma- jority over bis th opponents. Mrs. J. B. Hopkins, of Wash ington City, is a visitor at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. J. W. Hoges, in Boone. Tbi Democratic Coooty Primamry. Following is the official vote cast for the various candidates for the State offices at the pri maries held in watauga on last Saturday. The figures indicate the entire vote cast in the coun ty: For Governor: Dough tridge 5, Bickett 205. For Secretarp of State: Hart ness. Hartne88 91, Clark 2, Bry an Grimes 112. For Treasurer: Mann 88, Lacy 111. For Attorney General. Calvert 3, Jones 184, Manning 16, Sin clair 00. For Commissioner of Labor and Printing: Shipman, 154, Del- linger 87. For Member of Corporation Commission: Lee 150, Boyd 42. J; or Commissioner of Agricul ture, McKinnon 83, Graham 83. Hobbs 81. For Insurance Commissioner: Young 109; McClenaghan 83. The vote, aa the foregoing shows, was extremely light in the county, attributable likely to the fact that this is our first ex perience, under the primary law, and, the absence of any workers for the respective candidates. Possibly by the time the next primary is held, four years hence, we may have at least, a repecta ble vote.
