(By JL. N. Perkins.)
The path of the storm was nar
row, and it did not do a great
amount of damage. It was accom
panied by a heavy rain, but we
were not camping at the time
and were in the shelter. From
this place we were to go to a
days journey to the South into
Van Zant county to look for the
last horses. . We started early
the next morning, after the
storm had gone, but a short dis
tance until we came to a stream
6f water that was bridged, but
the bottom was overflowing, so
we waded in, crossed the main
current on the bridge., but soon
were in swimming water and for
half mile or more we waded and
8 warn until we reached the hills.
We had only gone a few miles un
til we came to another stream of
swimming water and no bridge,
but it was not wide and we found
a fallen tree that we crossed on
and drove our horses through
the current. When we arrived at
our stopping place in Van Zant,
we could hear nothing of the lost
horses, so decided to spend a
couple of days looking for them.
We were unacquainted with the
location of the country, and the
young man where we stopped
would not go with us unless one
of us would plow in the corn for
hi ui. I deided to take the job and
plowed corn two of . the hottest
days that I ever worked in a corn
field. At the end of two days we
could get no trace of the horses
and 'decided they were dead or
had been driven off. So we start
ed (next morning on the return
trip, but there was another horse
we were to look for, and we had
' to go some miles out of pur way
to take him. That evening we
came to the East fork of Trinity
river, another large stream. We
' found a toll bridge over the main
current of the river but we had
to swim on both sides of the
bridge and pay ten cents
each for the privilege. I have al
ways thought that the keeper
should not have charged us the
toll, but he was obstinate and
would not let us pass till we paid
him. He had the advantage of u,
as the timber was thick on either
side of the river and we . had to
keep in the road. He told us it
would probably swim us on the
de we started in but thought we
could go through the bottom
with wading, but we had to swim
at intervals for a mile or more
till w came to the foothills. We
found the horse wo were looking
for and got back home without
further trouble. We had been on
the trip nearly three weeks, and
when we returned we found
some folks, my aunt, especially.
very uneasy about us, as the cy
clone had passed only a short
distance south of Fort Worth, de
molished a little town near Dalas
and killed several people.

The great event is over, War

backed by an overwhelmingly
Republican -House and Senate,
is now in full control of the gov-

claimed in the late campaign,
means greater prosperity for the
American people, from the hod
carrier up, we can reasonably ex
pect a wave even surpassing that
of the eight years Democratic
administration just closed, the
ike of which has never been
known since our great Republic
was founded. President Har
