Mr. Tufts conducted ser vices at the county home Sunday afternoon. The epidemic of whooping cough that has been raging here for some time has somewhat aba-1 ted. ' : Mr. D. J. Cottrell's lange new store building will be ready for occupancy within the next few days. Mrs. Frank Anders and Miss Hattie Howie, both of Charlotte, were week-end visitors at the home of Dr. McG. Anders. Dr. Anders is making a pret ty improvement on his property by putting a rock wall between his yard and the sidewalk. Miss McNeill, trained nurse, of North Wilkesboro, is visiting at "Pine Crest," the pretty su burban home of Mrs, Emma H. Moore. Mr. and Mrs. George Shook, Of Grandfather, returned to their home Tuesday t after a short vis it to their daughter, Mrs. W. R. Gragg. Hay and oat harvest is now on, and, in the main, both crops are good, but just now the weather is very unfavorable for caring for them. The pretty homes of Messrs. J. A. Sproles, Russell G. Hodg es, L. R. Bingham and Prof. I.G. Greer are nearing completion. We are sorry to hear that Mrs. T. Len Cook, of East Boone, who has been seriously ill for the past three weeks, is but little if any improved. Mr. G. A. Hodges and little son arrived in Boone Saturday from their Ohio home, and will remain here for a short while visiting relatives and friends. 1 Miss Nellie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Coffey, left Tues day for Morganton, where she will spend a few days visiting rel atives. Mr. and Mrs. Deal, of Taylors ville, were over-Sunday visitors at the home of Mrs. Deal's bro ther, Atty. F. A. Linney. On their return they, were accom panied by Master Kenneth Lin ney. Miss Lucy Mast is at her home at Sugar Grove from Vera, Fla., where she has been for the past year visiting her aunt, Mrs. Laine and. in the mean time, going to the St. Lucie high school at Fort Price. The Livingston Club, which should have met last Monday af ternoon, but did not or account of the absence of a number of its members, will hold its meeting for the monb next Monday af ternoon with Miss Velma Rivers. Every member is urged to be present. IF The Radcliffe Chautauqua Co. known all over the United States as the greatest religious and educational Chautauqua Co. will present their exhibitions in Boone on the above dates day and night. As is generally known this company is not out to see how much they can make for themselves but to see how much they can make to turn over to worthy objects of charity. So when you attend this attraction you are not only being entertained as well as benefitted, but are helping some one to receive benefits they cannot otherwise receive. This attraction is absolutely clean, nothing indecent or vain, but elevating instead. People from ajl parts of the county should attend this great attraction. There will be a train out from Shulls Mills each night, free ot charge, for all coming from that community, and the peo ple of Boone are going to try to make it as pleasant for you while in town as possible. Don't fail to come for the attractions are well worth the money. Buy a sea son ticket if convenient, if not you can pay for each performance when you come. Bring all the family and let s have a real good time. Newland court is on this week, and the docket is so heavy that it is thought theentiretwo weeks will' b consumed. Attorneys F. A. Linney and W. R. Lovill, of the .Watauga bar are in attend ance. Deputy Sheriff Coffey landed a big copper still and one gallon of "the ardent" in the Cook's Gap section of, Watauga last Friday. The o itfit is one of the best in the large collection in the county jail, The stil and worm are of sol id copper. Messrs. John McNeely and son Jake, of Mooresville, A. M. (Roe) Brown, of Concord, and W. B. Blythe, of Huntersville, were guests at the home of Mr. John F. Hardin for a few days, leaving on their return Monday after noon. Mr. T. Hill Farthing left for the markets Tuesday morning to lay in his big stock of mer chandise to be opened in the Critcher building upon its arri val, which will be some time next week. His sister, Mrs. J. M. Mo retz, accompanied him on the trip. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnston, now residents of Ohio, have been guests for several days at the Critcher Hotel. Mr. Johnston took the full four year course at the A. T. S., and has many class mates and friends in Watauga who are glad to see him buck, even for a short visit. The boarfl of county commis sioners met in extra session on Monday last, revised the jury box and did some other routine business. In the afternoon the commissioner and the county board of Education met in joint session to determine whether or not the county of Watauga should in the future keep in her employ a welfare officer, which was deci ded in the negative. All welfare work hereafter will be by the Supt. of Public Instruction and his assistant. The rock and cement founda tion for the new county home has been completed, The bulk of the brick, sand and lime deliver ed, the window and door frames all ready for setting, and had it not been for the rain brick-laying would have begun yesterday mor ning. MoGhee Bros, the contrac tors, hope, weather permitting, to finish the brick work in the next three weeks. They have in their employ a crew of splendid masons. Chaese Prizes to Be Awarded. D: Rankin, Su perintendent of the school in which the bride had been teach ing, officiating, using the beauti ful ring ceremony. Only a few relatives and very close friends were present at the marriage. The bride was lovely in a trav eling suit of blue tricotine with accessories in brown, and car ried a handsome boquet of bride's roses. Immediately after the cer emony, amid the congratulations and best wishes of the. guests, the happy couple left by automo bile for Charlotte. There they boarded the train for an extend ed bridal tour north, it being their intention to visit Washing ton, New York, Niagara Falls and Atlantic City before return ing to North Carolina.
