PAGE TWO "DISCIPLE OF THE DEVIL" DIES IN ELECTRIC CHADS RALEIGH, N. C. ? Sidney Etheridge, 44, disdaining all religious ministrations and claiming close relationship with the devil, was jerked into eternity from his seat in the electric chair in State's Prison Friday for the brutal murder and robbery of Mrs. Mamie Moore. 71-year-old Onslow County recluse, whose hoardings may have been $3,000 or more. The electrocution, the 150th in the State's chair, was witnessed by several Genera! Assembly members, including Dr. C. A. Peterson. Mitchell County Republican, who has introduced a bill to supplant the electric chair with a lethal gas chamber as a method of execution. The legislators agreed that the electrocution was by no means as horrible as they had been led to believe by newspaper stories seeking to show the horror and stop capita) punislunent. Ethendge asked for half a pint of liquor before his death. This was denied. His emblem, he said, was the black cat. He denied his guilt. The kind and amount of fertiiibers together with tile time of application for the various garden crops are given in Extension Circular Nyo. 199. copies of which may l>r* secured from the A pi irulmrnl Editor at Stat*?
