T O,, left Sunday for Tndiannpolis, Ind.. to attend a nation-wide teachers' meeting. Messrs. Arthur Thomas and Forrest Wilson arrived in Boone Saturday for a short visit. Both are employed by the Fisher Body Company in raOhio. Mr. John McBride of the Cove Creek section, is a patient at a Lenoir hospital, where he was taken Sunday for treatment. Reports Tuesday were to the effect that the venerable gentleman was improving'. Mr. and Mrs. Roeert Moretz of Butler, Tenn.,; Mir. and Mlrs. Canipe, of the Bocae Baptist church, performed the ceremony in the presence of the members of the families concerned and a few intimate friends. Mlrs. Ler.tz is well known and much admired in Uii3 community, and is an attractive and necompilabcd young lady. She graduated from the Davis hospital school of nursing this year. Mr. Lents is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Lcntz, who reside near Statesvilie and holds a responsible position With the Stimpson hosiery mills. Dougherty was graeiou hostess to the members of the Friua Afternoon Club at their annul Christmas party on December J 7. The reception rooms were very al tractive in their decorations of evei greens and many-colored lights. I one corner stood a beautiful Chrisl mas tree, beneath which were stach ed boxes and packages of many d< signs and colors, containing gfil for each member of the club. After the last guest arrived an the usual greetings were over, short program was rendered. Mrs. Eddie Johnson, art leader at the- community center, made the hovel favors. Bags of fruit and candies to each child was the gift from Santa Ciaus. Mary Jean Garbee could not be present. but sent a bag or lovely cup cakes and with these and milk the children also celebrated Mary Jean's birthday. The kiddies and their mothers present were: Mhrtha Councill, Jxuiet Greene. Dorothy Asm Canipe. Evelyn and Bub'oer Studder. Jean and Bill Blackburn. Mm. Canipe, Mrs. Ben Council!, Mrs. David Greene. Mrs. Studder and Mrs. Eugene Garbce. Also present were the recreation leaders. Mrs. Eddie John- I 2011, Mrs. Allie Fletcher, Misses June j I.-ee Russell and Mildred Elk ins. The Mother Goose Club resumed i its activities Tuesday, December 2S. LAXTON HOME CLUB MEETS j With Mrs. A. F. Nichols as hostoss, the; Eaxpn Home Demonstration Club met on December 21. The | house was called to order by the president. Mrs. Ola Greene, after i which the report of the last meeting j was read by the secretary, Mrs. i Hazel Stahberry.
